I'll guess AU53 with nice eye appeal.

I really like this. I'll go with AU-58.

I'm torn between 55 and 58. It has such a great strike that it might be contributing more than it should otherwise. I think I'd stay "safe" at 55 - but a beautiful original skin which is worth a good bonus, in my opinion.

I'll leave this one open for awhile longer, see if any of the other LSC folks want to jump in.

I am guessing 55. With a shot at 58. Real nice either way!

Looks solid for AU-55 detail. There should be significant luster at this level of preservation but that isn't apparent from the photos. Is there a decent level of luster visible when examined in-hand? If not, it may have garnered an "improperly cleaned" label from NGC. They tend to be pretty fussy about cleaning, IMO.

Will probably not have it in hand until later this week. This coin is mysterious. Its particular pedigree has a reputation for overgraded coins, but this one Seated Half had a decent certain look to it that I found appealing. I am not sure why NGC gave it the grade they did; perhaps it's worth a cross to PCGS, or maybe there's something I just can't see behind the toning, which is rather dark. That being said, I don't think the slab pictures are doing the coin justice at all (you can see they were taken in shadow and very low light) -- I'll take pictures myself when it gets here. (NGC XF45) Compare it to this 1858 Seated Half from my collection which is also graded XF-45 but by PCGS:

The dark toning probably hurt the grade. The detail looks AU easily.

Yes, I was wondering if NGC might have knocked it down from a low AU simply because it's dark.
