gino. I would never assume to speak for John. However, the coin appears to have spent time buried. The tone is created by environmental damage. It is clearly not a mint error.

I found one this summer that looked a lot like it. It was on the edge of our gravel driveway in a wet area. I got the impression it had been there quite some time. This is on the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan, which all you Cent Stackers will know as Copper Country. Lots of iron in the soil as well. In short environmental influence.
