I've had USPS "fake" deliveries on Priority packages. It actually showed up the next day or 2. I think the mailman was slacking and had to keep his quota numbers up.
I had a shipment of coins that ANACS sent back by Fed Ex 3 day show up in town after 1 day according to the tracking. Day 2 the tracking showed it sat at the station. Day 3 delivery day the tracking said "Business closed, recipient not available" when we get shipments all day long. Someone at Fed Ex forgot to load the truck and the driver lied to cover his butt. Since we do a lot of business with Fed Ex at work I brought it up with our account rep and called them out. A few months later I got a call from some company that did customer satisfaction surveys regarding Fed Ex regarding a totally irrelevant to my coin issue claim we filed and one question was "How likely are you to recommend Fed Ex" and boy did I let them know I how I really felt about being scammed.

Time is of the essence.
YOU need to contact your USPS carrier that was working that delivery day ASAP and ask him/her where the package is. Did they leave it with your apartment manager or at the apartment office?

A lot of times larger packages are delivered to the apartment leasing office if they won't fit in your mailbox. Have you checked with them yet?

Mine have always shown as delivered when they made it to the mailbox, not the post office. However, it probably depends on when it is scanned and by whom, the carrier or someone else at the PO.

Posted signs at the mailbox hub last night to contact me if found. Went to the post office today and it wasn't there. They left a note for my post guy. Not optimistic.

Got home from work today and the mail guy wrote on one of my signs, "Put package in parcel box. No phone to call you. Sorry for the inconvenience."
Glad it arrived.

There are professional thieves out there who raid mail boxes, mainly looking for useful papers, to steal your identity. If there is a nice package that attracts them, they might take that as well.
Sorry for introducing this type of worry, but things like this can and do happen; I hope that is not the case here.
I destroy any document I receive through the post that has a barcode on it (that includes bills) if I don't need to retain it. Simply tear a small hole out of the barcode before disposal.
