Looks like the reverse die was over polished a lot. (note UNITED STATES) The devices are so thin. So that may have happened before the clash that made the "Y" on LIBERTY so strong.

Nice find Kevin. Do you think an acetone bath would help any?

Hi everyone - Thanks for the comments. I have a few Y clash specimens but this one was visible to me without much magnification. I'd love a specimen prior to them re-dressing the dies though.

John - I will give it a bath tonight under a watchful eye. It was getting late so I didn't want to 'set it and forget it'. I notice that on some specimens I have forgotten I can get some undesirable darker spots.

Coop - I think you might be right. It's smoother in the bay than on the other fields of the coin so their was likely another clash somewhere along the line. I didn't see the evidence yet but the outline of Lincolns bust is rather obvious in the bays.

Thanks everyone!

John - 15 minutes and the crust lifted nicely off the reverse.

Looks like you also have a linear plating bubble. Is that wavy steps too?

CM - looks like a heavy hand with the emery cloth about the devices including the steps. Not wavy: just ugly. I think there are a few gas bubbles on the reverse in the bays especially. Just waiting to pop. Ugh!

Some day they will no longer make zinc cents. You still have a nice clash though. Where do you find listings for clashes? TDC= Trail Dies.Com?
