I still have not cataloged all of the rolls. I do have a couple of rolls of Franklin's. I do have about 20 rolls of dimes. 13-15 of the rolls are Mercury. After I post a few more times, maybe we can have coffee and I can show you all of the rolls if interested.

There are a lot of really smart, nice people here that will be more than willing to help. I'll bet that after you hang around here for a while you may change your mind about liquidating your coins. You may even start adding to your collection.

Oh Boy! Oh Boy! Oh Boy!

That kind of talk really gets us excited here. Maybe in the process of cataloging and grading, you will kindle a spark and keep all or part of the collection. We are available to offer opinions on grade, rarity, and options for disposal.

I have never been in your situation ... my father disposed of his collection years ago. I am building mine to pass to my grandson eventually. Welcome aboard.

It's easy to get hooked on coins. I started with a single gold coin last year and now I have several collections going simultaneously.

As a newbie I see that I am going to have to take some sort of picture of a coin when trying to sell it. My question is: camera or scanner? Which is better

worldchamp,

By far the camera renders better than the scanner. This is especially true if you need a grade for your coin. Scanners just don't cut it. There is a thread on coin photography on the forum to get you started. Chime in whenever you need help.

Welcome worldchamp!

My only Two Cents worth of advice is take the time to educate yourself on what you have - the more you learn, the richer you will be. With coins, most of the value is actually in the education and not the little bits of pressed metal that their made of

Good luck with whatever you decide to do with them!

Hi!
I am also a newbie--I came across this site a few weeks ago and LOVE it! No one here will make you feel stupid--they are just great! I got bitten by the collector bug just recently when my brother and I were going thru my dad'a amateur collection(he had passed away) trying to decide what to do with it--our other two siblings didn't want anything but a few coins, etc. I decided to sell a few things on ebay and then work on filling albums for the grandkids (and of course myself!ha) Now I wished I had listened all those years sitting on the floor and counting out 50 pennies to put in each roll- that wooden floor in our farmhouse sure was cold, but the memories of my dad and his coins still warm my heart!

Gussy, I think memories like yours is more valuable than the coins itself. But the coin is just a token from your Dad to hold his values as your own. I think he succeeded.

One question. Why dissolve the collection? Sounds like you have a nice basis to start collecting with. I'm guessing your not interested in coins.

any rolls of indian head pennies? I'm guessing his siblings want some of the money that will be raised buy selling the collection. Welcome world champ.
