Interesting fake, I agree with Conder. The spacing is not correct regardless of the attempted deception of moving the 1 over to the left. I can tell by the die it's an alter 44D. The coins from the 40's just look a lot different from those made in 1914.

We wouldn't have to draw out the discussion like this if your original post had some substance instead of just a link.
It's obviously NOT a typical altered 44-D like you implied which is why I moved on the first time I read the topic..

I still don't know that it is. But it's not the typical 4 turned into a 1.

Yeah that's what I'm wondering.

Dead-on, as I said to open this discussion. I still don't see any evidence of an alteration from a '44D. Altering a 4 and then moving the stub 1 over to the left without a trace? Wha?

We might as well get some education out of this thread. The ebay pics are horrible, of course, trying to hide the deception...but I took the ebay coin (left) and put it next to a PCGS XF40 at the same resolution. I'll point some things out: - Color - Not sure how describe it other than a hue to the brown. 1940's coins have a certain color and look that likely corresponds to alloy variations - decades apart from 1914. - Spacing between the 1 & 4. HUGE gap on the fake. - Rim, the fake is a slight MAD, too thin in spots. 1914D rims are usually nice and thick. - MM - Way too high, a position I'm sure one could match-up with a 44D without looking too hard.

Brilliant, and I am certainly wrong, just not exactly sure how!

After reading page one I was going to ask if anyone got the photo(s). Here on page two I see BadThad came though with a bonus. Very helpful.

The mint mark is to close to the date. It is not in one of the genuine 1914-D Lincoln Cent positions
