No, you will find the seven all over the place high, low, right or left as the last digit was hand punched separately.

Yes, they were all over and there are some very nice R/P's as well for the date. I like the '87's.

Whoops ... I misread the date. I thought that it was an 1887, not a '97. The last digit was handpunched, so they move around, but nothing like the '87's. The '97 R/P's have some small offsets, but still nothing like the '87's.

I like the Victorian LCs, they are cool and I always check everyone I come across. some great varieties for sure. yesterday I found an 1888 with no N in CENT. ever heard or seen one before oakie? sorry to the op, not trying to steal your thread, I just want to ask the expert with out starting a new thread.

Now, there must have been a teenage craze way back where the large cents of any date had the E in cent manually maipulated (sometimes very crudely and childishly so) into a "U". Is that what yours is or does it look like a filled die?

I have seen those before on US Large Cents, and I sure wouldn't want one in my collection.
