I gave it a 64 because of the cheek contact and the touch of flatness in the tip of the mustache..still a very nice cent..!!..
Be it 64 or 65 RB or Red..we do know that ICCS plays games with it's older and/or newer grading practices..

Quote: Devlec....could you please explain this for me as I truly do not understand what you're saying. I think what he means is that earlier, ICCS was more strict with their grading. Now, they are more lenient. With large cents, you used to not find any MS64 red browns. But now there are some. That's just an example. Also, I started seeing seeing a few MS66 large cents. Not sure how they used to go about that back in the day. As a young collector, I do not have much experience with ICCS so hopefully someone could clear this up some more. But I have a few five and ten cent coins in old and new ICCS holders. I didn't notice too big a difference between their ms64 and 65 from then and now. But I do see some with the Large cents.

They aren't under-graded, they are properly, conservatively graded. They just appear that way when compared to the current batch of grossly OVER-graded ICCS coins.

And everyone scoops up first generation PCGS holders too, but I don't hear you bashing PCGS also. Also, this above statement you make (which is obviously not complimentary to ICCS) is a far cry of an explanation to your first statement that ICCS "plays games", which to me, means ICCS in their supposed 'overgrading' acts in a deliberate, unethical, planned and devious manner. I hope you do not think this is true. One more point, if you think the old holders are so undergraded, why don't you resubmit all your old holders and reap the giant rewards of upgrades? True, some upgrade, but some do not and some actually grade lower. That's the nature of the grading business.

Quote: if you think the old holders are so undergraded, why don't you resubmit all your old holders and reap the giant rewards of upgrades? Many of mine will have to go to PCGS or some other grader.. I've dropped $1000's to ICCS in the 90's..I can't see myself wasting any more more on them.. ...and it has nothing to do with what I may or may not think. I'm just a 'back in the woods collector'. When SPP,..Jaime,..Rob Turner, ..Bob Forbes,..Mike Marshall,..Gerry H,...Jeff Chapman,.. Hugh P..and many more expert graders all share the same views when looking as my collection...Maybe they can't all be wrong. My "opinion" is that ICCS plays games 'now and in the past' with some of it's collectors,..and had done a great disservice to some older collectors.. The one interesting memory I have of Brian is when I picked up my collection from him. His only comment was "Are they for sale ?".. ..I never forgot that...as he was Canada's expert in 5 cent silvers..and that's what I had mainly submitted to him..

Devlec ICCS screwed you over on your grading of your coins and the fact afterwards he asked if your coins were for sale leaves a might big ? mark. The whole thing leaves a big fat dark cloud over ICCS. I think they should give you back your money for doing a terrible job.

Everyone has their opinion. I will definitely send my higher, more precious (to me) coins to PCGS to get slabbed. But that's in the future, when I've amounted a few coins to make it worth sending in.
Anyway, thank you everyone who participated!

I can't comment on Devlec's story, but I suppose he wouldn't fabricate it and I take it for truth.
Whether or not Brian undergraded these coins so he could purchase them is something I tend not to believe.
BUT.....if it is so and Devlec is complaining about 'wasting' all that money for grading, then doesn't it make sense to pay the $11 per grading NOW and have everyone of your coins 'zoom' up one, two or three grades?
I don't claim to be a financial genius, but it doesn't take one to realize this is the obvious option.

All is 100% true as stated above,..but.. I don't want a higher #... I want a fair and accurate grading system as does everyone else....and that didn't happen in my case on so many of my coins.... What bugs me the most is that those grades pushed me away for a long time from a hobby that I loved so much. ...and by chance I saw the CCF Coin Forum and asked one question about my Zoell Book collection ..and I was back in the game.. SPP was the first person to set me straight on my collection.. BTW...All should join the RCNA as they're the perfect source to finding solutions to all of your questions.

When your coins were graded Devlec, the term "market grading" did not exist. It exists now, and it is something that all the third party graders and coin dealers have bought into...
Even CCCS, when they started, maxed out at PF-68 for grading proof coins - now they grade PF-70 coins (sometimes the same coins) to tailor to collector demands and "market grading"...
We, as collectors, have to recognize that market grading has evolved in our hobby, and it brings us back to full circle, when we say, "Buy the coin, not the holder"...
