Here are some better pictures. The orange picture shows the line going through the top right of the U to the rim. The other pics show the line reaching the bottom rim. What does everyone think?

I think the line may curve and connect through the roof. One big line as opposed to different ones. This shows up best on the orange picture. You can also see the faint connection under the steps in the first picture as well.

That is one very nice die crack. The die is not broken, but almost. If it was broken, the crack would extend into the rims and there would be metal displacement. It's the straightest and longest I've ever seen. There are people that collect the nicer ones. If it were mine, I wouldn't sell it for less than $40.00, you don't see them like this very often.

Very nice. I think the $40 value is in the ballpark.

I think you have what is rim to opposing rim die crack or bisecting Rim to Rim die cracks and it's not listed yet on Cuds-on-Coins.

If you want to get it listed.

Very nice die crack. While it is not thick enough to list as a split die, it does fall into the category of rim to opposing rim die crack or bisecting Rim to Rim die cracks.

If you would like, I would put this die crack on site. All I need is a image of the full obverse, reverse and your name.

Thanks,

BJ, You can add the coin to your listing if you like. I will add full size pictures to this post. You can use those and my other pictures in the post for use on your website. You can use MS70Error5 for my name.

You need better pictures. If it were me, I'd click on Cuds and Coins and give my real name. You are the discoverer and will go down in Numismatic history as such. This also increases the value of your coin.

I have this exact coin, same year, same exact crack. I found one for sale online, again exactly the same crack. However it seems that there are at least 3 of these that I have found ( including mine) so I would think there are more. Since there are other examples I'm surprised to see that it isn't listed as a variety. I know this is an old thread but any thoughts on this?

There is one listed here for this date. Looks very similar. Take a look: http://cuds-on-coins.com/rim-to-rim...u-s-coins-2/

Yeah, I saw where someone had suggested they put it on there, so I guess they did. When I google 1950 nickel die crack I get this forum and one for sale on I think bj coins. With mine there are three that I know exist. I got mine out of a bag of nickels that was part of my grandfather's collection, there was a 1950 d over horizontal d in there too, that's actually what I was looking for when I found the die crack
