VF Details. Note the lines running from 12:00 to 6:00 on the obverse indicating a strong cleaning. Not great eye appeal.

VF20, dets, cleaned and retoning in an ugly way
I'd value it around $40

About it being VF20-25 and cleaned I believe I agree with that .... I'm more or less trying to figure out what would be a fair price to pay for this coin ! I've searched ebay active Bin listing and have seen a few VF detail coins of this date prices at 109 , now we all now that's a bit insane and the coin will most Likley set on ebay for years at that price ... Raw coins in similar grades have been selling in the 55-75 price range ... Even though this coin appears to have been cleaned if it was atleast VF 20 wouldn't it be worth in the 45-60 range ? I understand read book is high retail and showing value for problem free coins but it has this date and grade for 160 ... Just asking for a little help on whether to pay or pass on this one at 30 bucks :)

30 bucks? If you like it, buy it.
My rules of coin values and prices for non-investors 1. Any given coin is worth what someone will pay for it. 2. If you love a coin, don't let price be the only thing keeping you away 3. If you hate a coin, it'll never be a good value to you at any price

pass that coin is rife with issues from the cleaning to the dings on the obverse. why would you add such a problem coin to your collection. Take your time, wait for the right one to present itself and it will be worth the money. Are you planning on a short term flip for profit or do you want something you can add to your collection that is eye appealing? If a quick flip, you wont do well with this coin. If a long term hold for appeal in your collection you wont do well with this coin. All IMHO of course.

Well I understand what your saying about the cleaning but the dings on the obverse are nothing but tiny little nicks , that to the naked eye wouldn't be a big deal !! You have to understand these photos are enlarged to the size of a half dollar showing every little nick and bump ... My way of thinking on this coin is if it's a VF 20 maybe 25 details (cleaned) it should still be well worth 30 bucks ... Problem free VF 20 coins book for 140-160 bucks , so with that In mind I don't see how I could go wrong buying this coin for 30 bucks ... I've spent a good part of today looking at past auction and to be honest I don't agree with much you have said here ! I could list this coin on ebay as VF details and bring 60+ from it ,that would be double what I'd invested !! A wise man one said to me it doesn't matter the condition of a coin as much as how rare, popular and low mintage it is ... I'm not saying this is a super rare coin but regardless of what many believe people are willing to pay for better date low mintage coin even if they do have a problem because Barber coins are really sought after...
