It's in one of NGC early holders but looks like it was in a war, looks rotated too, ask Joe to bring it to one of the shows.

It doesn't look like its a scratch, but a streak that wasn't toned with the rest. The fingerprint doesn't affect the grade. The MS65 is probably due to the details. In hand, it might show more details than we see in the picture. As for appeal, if someone likes it they'll get it.

I am not really interested in the coin, I am really trying to figure out grading, and looking at that coin (in the pictures) it would not be MS. Personally I would never buy a toned coin.

so fingerprints don't affect the grade? doesn't that really fly in the face of the Mint State part of MS65? how does that work?

The odd toning pattern is giving an illusion of there being a scratch which isn't actually there.

In any event, the appeal is difficult to understand.

The average price for a 1939 MS65 is $385.00
so seller is charging over $200.00 extra for the "toning".
It's not my thing. Much rather have a nice clean coin for less money.

A fingerprint in my opinion, is a major flaw. I'm surprised a TPG would ignore it.

I like a little natural toning on some coins, although I can be very picky about what is and isn't eye appealing. I avoid buying coins with spotty, unattractive toning or finger prints. As I understand it, eye appeal is a grading factor in the US but not in Canada. As a mostly Canadian collector, I like it this way, as it makes eye appealing coins more affordable...

I know that PCGS can give a grade point for attractive eye appeal. But I didn't know they could take out a point. I mean, unless the die was getting old and weak strike looked ugly. But toning and fingerprint-wise, it's not affecting the detail. As for NGC, I'm not too familiar with their whole take on eye appeal

Eye appeal will have a big part to play in the real value of this coin, that is why it was eBayed.

I guess it will be hoped that the person who buys it will go on the grade alone.

this coin was mishandled and does not deserve an MS65.

That has to be the ugliest coin I have ever seen.

Neither toning nor fingerprints affect the technical grade of the coin. It's not my cup of tea either, but it's almost certainly original. IIRC there's a 1948 dollar that looks similar that is also graded MS-65, but by ICCS.

I know what the purists will say, but this is a coin that would benefit from a quick bath.

Everyone has a right to post a coin at whatever price they want to test the market at.

Given a 65 by Anacs due to colorful toning.

Most likely ICCS would give it a 64.
