I would not bash ICCS they are Canada's premier grader for sure but was interested in first impression.

ICCF - Is like walking into the 70s. 2 person operation (?)
serious people - dedicated to the task at hand. Being a newbie
felt unsure of myself. However.. I brought more coins for grading
and on quick review - they said don't bother and explained why.
- For me they get 5 stars -

related to this subject;
I recently joined some coin groups on facebook, and I am constantly taken aghast at people listing their stuff like it's all gold;
I totally get that dealers need to make a profit to stay in business, and I will never scoff at dealer's asking prices ect.
What really needs to happen is that people in general need to understand that everything is supply & demand - sure the book suggests a given coin might be worth $25, but that doesn't mean that just anyone can get $25 (or more)... if your audience is only going to offer 30% book value, then that's all you can get.

Yes, I agree....
There's plenty of dealers listing their ICCS coins for full trends and sometimes more, sometimes even without a 'make an offer' choice!!
Now that is truly dreaming.

It always depends on the coin. Especially eye appeal.
I've sold extremely nice for grade coins at above trends. I've sold a same date/type/technical grade/TPG coin at a small fraction of trends because it had poor eye appeal.
In the end, trends is only a guide.

With all the generic stuff out there, at best, I'd say this happens 1 in a 100 times. Dealers when selling like to talk about 'eye appeal', but try selling to a dealer and try to get that little bit extra because of eye appeal and it won't happen. You can't have it both ways. |

The only benefit of eye appeal is a quicker sale. Unless you have a combination of rare variety or certain key years and someone with expendable funds that really wants it, I haven't seen a coin sell near trends in some time. Other exceptions to the trends game might be very low value ICCS graded coins <$20 where you might get full trends only because of the holder provided.

As an example, TCNC had a 1948 MS 65 dollar that was charcoal grey in their display for around a couple years, they wanted close to trends but to me and many others this coin had no eye appeal but eventually it did sell, if this was blast white it would have sold immediately.

I could be wrong but last time I was at TCNC (more than a year ago), they were basically selling at 90% of trends.
Add the HST and you have a recipe for stagnant inventory.

Unless it was removed from a PCGS slab, the TCNC coin was even a darker shaded version.
