I agree with AgCoinAu... Hasn't our dollar always been lower? We just got to level for a few years but now it looks like it's back to normal

There are lots of sellers on ebay still using the Loonie...(and some on icollector). I usually just avoid the canadian sellers who only take US$ (not the American sellers...it is their home and currency after all). If your selling shows most of your stuff going to the US part of the reason might be Canadian buyers are avoiding you.

Back in 1999 and 2000, the exchange rate was 1.55 or so......and no grand 'exodus' of Canadian coins was occurring to the US.

Presently, if it seems all the good Canadian coins are going to the US buyers, it's only because there's no big-time Canadian collectors left and has nothing to do with the exchange rate.

I have not noticed a difference at coin shows or ebay sales, in fact, my sales have increased, with more US buyers...

I too agree the exchange rate has stopped me buying on ebay. Its rare to find someone selling in cad. I'm sort of toying with selling some of my unwanted nclt coins, so I would have some US funds to shop with. However, the new return rules of Nov.2014 put me off and I closed my store. I remember traveling sept 1999 and I paid $1.66 for every US, back in the early eighties, when I was doing US importing I was paying $!.15 for a US dollar. When my mom bought her first Pomeranian in 1973 from the states, our dollar was worth more. So it seems to go back and forth. Lately its been more down than up, which is great for anyone doing exports, or in tourism. The import side its a killer.

Is this "fall" of the CAD against the USD due to the strengthening of the USD globally? Hmmmm, maybe the rate setters should try to balance a home budget: groceries, utilities, etc.
Maybe I should do more Canadian shopping?

I'm going to post some ebay US auctions in the new year of some better Canadian material, and see what happens.

It will be interesting to see we where are headed in 2016 not only with the "hobby" but economy in general. The giant Pacman next door to us is the place to be as pacificoin has noted.

Never thought I would love being an exporter so much , but indeed this is MERRY CHRISTMAS . We have a little snow on the ground today and more sunshine in our account as we prepare to send even more stuff to our American Cousins.
It is not all bad this collapsing LOON.

There is always a general thought the federal government wanted a weaker loonie to boast export, but a free falling loonie at some point hurts us all.

i think the sweet spot for our export businesses is somewhere around $1cnd = $0.7~$0.82usd

IIRC we have for the most part, for the past thirty years been hovering in the $0.72-0.76 area...

every thing that is good is about to leave Canada
I've seen this sentiment expressed in various ways on this forum, and always find it curious/interesting. It's like coins are some kind of national heritage or something. As an American, I couldn't care less if a bunch of Morgans or St Gaudens go to Saudi Arabia or Germany. Most of my Canadian coins crossed the border almost 70 years ago, so it's not anything new.
