I do see that the outer ring appears to be a different color, maybe material. Could it have been a really worn one and someone decided to put a bezel around it? Why? No sign of a hook or anything as if it were meant to be jewelry.
Don't know how much better these pics are. Working with what I got, sorry.

I just don't get why people would do something like this...
I appreciate the help and I promise, I have much better things to share. I need to setup my DSLR camera and try to get some good pictures...
My issue right now is, do I want to spend the money to have things graded...It would likely cost me a small fortune to have what I want graded done....

Thank you all again!

So, no one wants to believe its a SLQ punched into a nickel and make me rich? lol As always, thank you all. I have found great people in a Jeep forum for my Jeep and I am glad I took the step to join this one for these coins! As soon as I have the time, I will setup my camera and get some coins loaded up. Hopefully the DSLR will do justice.

I just spent about an hour reading through there after making an attempt with my Sony DSLR. Didn't know this was going to be so painful. I am going to have to do a lot more reading. I think I will either try an iphone lens addons and make a box/stand for it to sit in, or maybe a microscope so I can shoot straight to the Pc. Lots more reading to do. THANK!

Same coin, messing with the iphone. I think I will go this route, build a box, throw some leds into the mix. Thoughts?

I have ordered a gray sheet. Someone had a link posted in the photo section, but the site was down for ordering. It was $3 there, ordered one for 9 on ebay. I have also discovered my sony a300 has a macro setting, so I will give that a shot. I plan on making a light box. I have some ideas based on some reading. I have tons of LED bulbs around...So, I will tinker while waiting for my sheet.

Why do people counterstamp modern coins? The OP has a 1961 LMC with a 2 stamped on it. I have one (didn't really pay attention to it because I figured it was just "graffiti") with a 6 stamped right where the 2 is on the OP. Same looking font too. If I can find it I'll take a picture of it, but for now I was wondering why people do it, and is it of any interest?
