The cupro-nickel ones issued from 1947-51 are generally harder wearing than the 50% silver ones of 1937-46: I remember back in the early 1970s you could regularly find a VF 1947 or 1948 in change, whereas most florins from 1945-6 were VG to F.

These circulated freely as ten pences till they were replaced by the smaller model in 1992. I did a pretty good job of collecting the dates of the 5p's at the time but regret that since 10p actually had purchasing power to a 14 year old boy at the time (it was half a mars bar!) I didn't manage to save too many from circulation, I did get some though :)
