So I understand the Cud part but the part under the date is real odd. Its like a deep crater around 3/4 of the coin. Even part of the date is hanging over the crater. |

Could be a small MAD (from what I am learning here on the forum) seems to be more of a rim on the bottom than the top of the coin.

If it is level on the area in question, it looks like a Cud. But if it is dented inwards, then it might be damage. But I'm leaning towards a Cud. |

I don't know what it is, But the area against the rim is sunk in. Like the field had something sunk into it at the time of minting. I have a few and think I received basically the same responses. But the pics Like the OP weren't good enough to show this little valley.

If it is sunk in on the coin, then it would have to be raised on the die. So the die may have been damaged on that area.

Coop is correct in that this is a die attrition error. The sunken groove is an occasional feature of such errors and is presumably the result of a burr that formed on the the abraded edge of the hammer die. http://www.error-ref.com/die-attrition-error/Error coin writer and researcher.

Sweet! So are these type of die attrition errors worth holding onto? I really don't want to know if it's a premium or not. I just really like the weird/unusual coins.
