I didn't notice 'altered date' in the listing so, I suppose a lot of bidders didn't either. But, they must know it's not original.

IMO, this coin should not be resold, even with all of the disclaimers; because of the high likelihood that it will be bought by someone who plans to resell it without said disclaimers, i.e. as a genuine 1877 IHC. I think seller is showing poor judgment by even listing it for sale to begin with.

It's now up to $355. seller is offering 14 day money back return. I think his key word is ''RARE '' this is crazy .

Altered date is not allowed, whether stated or not, and should be removed. Suggest mentioning over on the counterfeit forum.

I don't think it's altered. I think the date is legit, but the coin is NOT legit.

What date do you suggest that it was altered from? It would have to be post-1886; 1887? 1897?

CHD - What do you mean by "the date is legit but the coin is NOT legit."

He means that it is a counterfeit struck as an 1877, not an altered date of a genuine coin. These were my thoughts as well.

I never realized there was so many counterfeit out there. Wonder how much money Bobby and everyone else has saved newbies by taking down the fake coins. I definitely have to commend you guys, taking your time out of your day to prevent others from buying counterfeits. Great job guys, can't wait till I'm able to distinguish between them.
