Here's a few more example of varieties you might find in the pursuit of 1943 50c. <description above each photo> This is a good example of quite a narrow date. Also notice the "3" is placed quite high. It's also a Flat-back "9", where a slight bit of the back of the "9" has been removed, giving a straighter appearance. Zoell R444g You will notice a very deep die crack though the "3" to the hoof. Another (not in photo) runs from the TS in "cents to the Unicorns's flagpole. Zoell FL444j An obvious diecrack running from the Kings neck to the rim on the obverse side of the above. There's another diecrack from the rim to the "I" but a clear photo of both surpasses my frustration limit. Zoell L444c Really cool but easy to pass by. Peeled Chrome Plating, Zoell E444n. Same '43, obverse of above. Diechip and diecrack - literally described as V-I-blob-rim, rim-D (the rim-D is not too visible in this photo.) Zoell EFL444q

Quote: Now I'm not trying to hijack this thread, but questions have arisen. The orange (sometimes red) shirt started back nearly 20 years ago when the old CCRS site began. There were a bunch (5-6)of us collectors who decided to try to meet for the first time (we were from all corners of the earth) at the Torex when it was downtown on the waterfront (the Radison?). Living locally, I said that I'd wear an orange shirt so the other faceless folks would know what to look for. As more members joined CCRS, a few more folks would make the journey to Toronto and we'd all meet for show and tell and beers. Our meetings got so popular that the owner of the CCRS site (and the Torex owner) made up ID badges for us all to wear with our names and CCRS handles and our meeting group swelled to 10-12. I've carried the orange shirt tradition forward once CCRS died and people sought out their own forums. Except for the Toronto Coin Expo twice a year, out old gang seldom gets to meet any more. Okiecoiner, I think that's a terrific story! And by the way, where's any interesting 1943 50c you might like to share with us?

One last 1943 from me. Anyone else, feel free.. This one is a typical narrow date variety but I'm a sucker for toned coins. And yes the toning is blotchy but what was a total surprise that I found out after buying it, the silver is absolutely brilliant, appearing to be from a new chrome die. An array of silver, rust and dark brown colours, to my eye looks as a antique 50c should.

Torgemco:The only characteristic that I can see in this coin is that it is a narrow date with no other anomalies visible.

Wildflower... first I want to say thank you... since I've moved I really haven't been doing much with my coins. But I just LOVE 50 cent coins and this thread was exactly the kick in the pants that I needed. Pulled out my 50 cent coins, and found all my '43s... Most of my '43s are pretty vanilla but the following I think are a bit interesting. What I think is an early state die crack from the tip of the 3 An early state die crack from the hoof Doubled 3 This is probably my favourite... a full clash of George's head on the reverse... you can see the lips very well right beside the staff the unicorn is holding And this coin was the start of my education and passion for 50 cent pieces... 3/3/3

Any idea what kind of premium the clash might achieve?

Nice coins Agcoinau......I have never been quoted a price for a clash mark coin, so I don't think that there is really a premium..

Good to know!... Still one of my favourites... got that one at a coin club auction ... I saw it and had to have it... but apparently there was one other member that really wanted it too... as they say in football .. had to go deep for that one!

Hi Torgemco
It looks like you have a bit of a die clash on your coin as well, on the reverse between the left spear and the edge of the shield. Does the clash continue into the design?
