As mentioned by DBM, here's where the coin (pic) comes from.. https://goccf.com/t/161684

Well you can expect the coin that your not going to receive will be rotated die..lol

Here's my '48. Note it's also a rotated die. I got this coin around 1971 from my grandfather, Charles Smutny.

So Silverwolf, you actually bought this coin? Why? "1948" Dollar and no one else placed a bid on it?

I would say he bought it just to teach the seller a lesson, but I dont think it was technically purchased. IMO

but guess what I can't pay because the person is not verified on ebay, so I cancel the transaction

Can't buy what can't be paid for.

But would someone please explain what "verified on ebay" means?

yes I believe it is a scam, most likely there isn't even a coin to sell, therefore the stolen photos.and I knew with paypal protection I would not lose if it was fake. when you pay with paypal it is usually instant, but this time when I paid it says payment is processing. so I went on paypal, and it said payment processing, seller is not verified on ebay? so I just cancelled it and called ebay..eBay is monitoring our messages, and the seller has stopped talking to me. I told the seller to take a photo with the coin on something with a current date, and I also offered him to send me the coin, and if it turns out to be real I would pay him almost 3 times what he was asking for it..and of course he will not reply now..

Penneyman, you've found that by using Google Image Search?

Not sure if everyone is aware that duplicate images can be searched on the web, but it certainly can be a valuable tool.

Good catch DBM...

No Wildflower not 'google image finder' that search engine doesn't work very good, IMO.
Just searched it out manually. :)

Thanks Pennyman, both you and DBM are indeed very observant!

I'd hope listings for sellers of rare Cdn circulation coin who copy existing photos might be acceptable to report as counterfeit, seems likely the next route fraudsters will take. Maple leaf and other NCLT, not so easy to recognize especially if stock photos are used instead.

This is similar to a listing on Kijiji that I reported this morning.
A seller in Midland had a certified MS65 48 Dollar for sale
for $5,000 because he "needed the money".
The only problem was that the picture and certification number was the same one
as a seller in Orlando Florida had listed on ebay.
The listing has been removed but I liked to know how he was going to scam someone.
I have reported this seller before for his unscrupulous listings.

I saw that one on Kijiji as well Jim. The seller has actually successfully scammed at least one person I know on 2 fake gold maples.

I cannot tell you how angry I am at having found this thread. I immediately recognized that stolen photo as my own coin, from possibly my very first post on this forum. Someone should have sent me a PM. Does anybody have direct connections with ebay? I am in the US, and this seller joaauclai0 is purportedly in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. With the right advice from this forum, I would make it my life's mission to help prosecute this person for fraud, or whatever else is applicable. I'm livid right now.

Kbbpll, you're right, one of us definitely should have tried to contact you and thank you for making the point, if something like ever occurs in the future again.

The person with the closest connection to ebay who I've noticed is Bobby131313, actively reporting fakes to ebay on the Cdn counterfeit section of this forum. But there's also a couple of very knowledgable CCF members here who may not have noticed your post. One of them is above, SPP-Ottawa.
