Dag Nabbit ! You beat me to that punch. I was going to say if he/she lived near me, I'd come by and sort them myself.

or, sell them by the pound, unsearched/unsorted, to the likes of me and others on this forum...I'll by some from you. I'd give you, sight-unseen, three dollars a pound plus shipping/handling for unsearched/unsorted pennies.

Just to be fair, he should realize that the going rate on ebay is $2.50 - $7.00 (yes, I've sold as high as $7.00 and I've seen some other sellers get even more) plus $3.99 s/h for 1/2 pound packages.

Of course, it might be worth it for him to give them away at $3 per pound on here if he doesn't want to deal with the hassle of ebay.

What fun you have ahead of you! There are those of us that would help you sort and be delighted to just help--yes, there are a lot of us coin crazy folks out here! ha Anyway, don't forget us here on the forum when you get ready to sell or trade. I recently paid double of what the RedBook lists cents for some very early cents-S just to fill some albums. Good LucK!

Most of the coins are in my fathers possesion, and he has told me that I will "have to pry them from his cold dead hand". So that is probably what I will have to wait for.

He has consented to sorting them to find out what's in there. from the top layers we have gone through I would say the majority are post 82(about 70%). we have pulled out a few wheats so far. I'm sure the deeper we get the older the coins will get also.

Are there any post 82's worth searching for?

The only post-1982 cents which are worth anything and can easily be spotted with the naked eye are the Close AM and Wide AM varieties.
http://www.lincolncentresource.com/wideams.html

These would be harder to spot, but there are '82 and '83 DDRs and '84, '95, and '06 DDOs.

Those are the biggies. If you go to coppercoins' website, you can get a complete list, which would probably keep you busy for the next 50 years!

Jeeze; you make me feel like you think I wanted to hose him or be unfair. Do the math and the likelihood of Wheaties being tossed into the trunk in any substantial numbers began to greatly diminish about 30 years ago. So, FYI, I dont know anyone readily offering or buying $3/pound (plus S&H) for lots of cents with high Memorial probability...then again, I dont know everyone and know even less.

Jim, you are 100% completely correct and I apologize. I totally forgot that his collection is about 80% memorials. Your offer was MORE THAN fair. I was focusing on the wheats and lost my mind. Again, I apologize.

I would be interested buying several lots, depending on the price, and they can be shipped in flat rate boxes. Decide what you are going to do. You will pay the price on ebay, due to their way of doing sellers. I want a little of whatever comes out if you gently "scoop' them ont with your hands, and cotton gloves on. Like I said in another post, I am not a sellse, never have, never will. This is for my Hreat-Great-grand kids. The great-grand kids are in college, now!

As I said earlier there must be a cold dead hand involved before any of the coins will be up for sale, and I'm hoping that will be a long time away. And FYI about 1/4 of the collection was from my grandfather who passed away 25 years ago. I know the wheaties will be more numerous at the bottom. I will post any finds. I'm young and plan to have a lot of time to browse the collection.

As for dipping handfulls out, that's not possible as they have all been rolled. They are stacked in layers 12X32 rolls. And I'm guessing about 15 rolls deep. The bottom of the container is where the coins from my grandfather are. I'm working my way down to them so I can save the best for last.

P.S. You guys played your hand wrong. You should have bluffed and said they weren't worth anything. Your over excitement and offers to buy have made me want to search them even more.

Thanks for the feedback. I may sell some in the future. Keep your eyes open.

MY young friend, Had we "played our hand differently, and "bluffed you saying thay aren't worth anythimng, " we would be putting ourselves in the same class as the sellers on ebay that LOVE to rip-off the young, and innocent! I am not a seller, but there are many who are, on this forum, as well as many other forums. You made the right decision. Keep them. Learn about them. find out what Gram-pa saw in them, that made hin save them, (for you0. Ditto your dad. Your future as a collector is in your hands. Learn a little, or learn a lot, and be surprised at just how much there is to learn about the "lowly" cent. I am still a "newby", and I'm only 83.

Do not listen to any of these forum members that say send those to them. I don't trust them so you shouldn't. I'll prove that by allowing you to send them all to me and I won't even charge you for that. Of course I'll even pay for postage, however, the actual coins would now be mine since I'm doing you the favor of getting rid of that pile of stuff.

i agree with who ever said it before.. with the cents looking like their going to be discontinued.. and wheats growing in price day by day.. just take your time.. Ive spent the last 4 days working on a stack of 20,000 cents, and you know what.. its dosnt get old..
Just keep on trucking...
it will be so much more worth it when you find a key date in there.. ( I know theres a few)
so just take your time.. and please... dont use a sorter :)
