To me it is a Fr-2 to AG-3. I have seen similar coins in PCGS and NGC slabs as G-6 and ones just a little better as VG-8. (I've seen 16-D's with the reverse rim still sightly worn into the tops of the letters as high as VF-20) Quote: Like SEGS, they use a separate company that processes the coins and places them into flips before entering the ICG office. This is news to me. I knew ICG did so.

I buy ICG coins that I think are undergraded and flip them to NGC ( cracked out, of course). It is possible to make money this way, but... you really have to know not just the grade, but the series.

From what I've seen with the dozen or so ICG coins I've purchased over the past couple months ( mostly Barber dimes ) is that almost every single one is about 3 points off ... These have all been circulated coin , but what they grade as AU 58 looks 55 if comparing to other TPG slabs ... Another problem I see as much if not more than you would expect with NTC or PCI is that ICg is very generous with coins that have had a light cleaning ... On these coins it's like they down grade them a bit but grade them problem free ... Maybe I'm just getting all the bad eggs as I've seen similar with even the top company's from time to time , but it's to the point now that I expect the coin to be overgraded a bit or lightly cleaned anytime I purchase a icg coin :(

I know it is an old post but here goes anyway. I bought a collection of raw Lincoln wheaties from a local dealer with only the keys and semi keys graded. The coins that were slabbed were slabbed by PCGS and ranged from xf-45-ms65, all brown but solid, nice coins. Icg was CONSISTENT in grading the rest of the set much more conservatively than PCGS had. I have started dealing with icg exclusively just because of economic reasons but in my experience they are more conservative on Lincoln wheaties than the top 2 companies and it has killed me on this set. There were a few coins I was positive would grade out at 66+ that were put in 63-64 holders. Just my 2 cents.

Interesting that in almost 3 years nothing much has changed with ICG on grading coin value.
ExoGuy, what did you do with the 16D dime?

Quote: ExoGuy, what did you do with the 16D dime? I sold it with a set. I had Larry Briggs, SEGS, confirm that it was genuine. Having a 16-D with a set never fails to make the lot more salable - synergy! I've sold a fair number of complete date and mintmarked sets over the years. Rarely has anyone asked me for the overdate. Overall, I've not come across many ICG slabs in my travels. I've bought a few counterstamped coins therein but cracked them out.

I like the fact that they will not grade cleaned or questionable coins. The down side to that is if you are going to have one graded in raw form. It might come back without a slab as such unless you know what to look for before submission. As for a run on the top two? Perhaps. Personally, from looking at them side by side at coin shows or dealers over the years, I'd say they are slightly better on the grade. Especially larger coins, Double Eagles or Morgan dollars, where ticks and scuff marks against high luster are involved. Just my opinion.

Personally I've have not been seeing an increase in ICG slab popularity in the shops and show I frequent. They still seem to be marginal player in the market with PCGS/NGC/ANACS being the more dominant players.

They still seem to be marginal player in the market with PCGS/NGC/ANACS being the more dominant players. There's been an increase online and at shows particularly in the cheaper valued coins. PCGS and NGC are undoubtedly king and even they will say that, but there would be a lot less ANACS without the HSN contract. They'll even put counterfeits in a counterfeit holder if someone wants for education or to have it properly identified ect.

ICG has been around for quite a while. BUT I don't believe they have a database of the coins they've graded. That's why coins graded by them cannot be listed on ebay using the Sheldon grades.

Quote: BUT I don't believe they have a database of the coins they've graded. Yes they do, that was one of the requirements that ebay imposed in order for a company to be accepted as a certified and have grades listed. There is a certification verification section listed on ICG's website.

Quote:ICG is an ebay approved TPG. You absolutely can list them just like PCGS/NGC coins Oops, I have now found this out. Shortly after I made my post I listed some coins in ICG slabs. Did this the same as I would have listed a NGC, PCGS or ANACS coin.
