Thanks guys... I've waited a long time for this. Pentax had been hinting at it for a long while and all of us Pentaxians were in the I'll believe it when I see it group. Well it became official today for pre order so I had to pull the plastic and get it ordered... Can't wait til it arrives and I can put it on the tripod and start shooting...

I always like to see reviews by experts before parting with readies. There are bound to be a few tweaks Pentax will make.

Peter... I hear you.. I've shot Pentax for the last 10 years. I've loved their cameras since my first DSLR. I'm sure there will be a lot of shaking out to do but I can't wait to get to do that

I fell into Pentax just by dumb luck, but it sure has been good to me.
While at auction many years ago I saw a well equiped photographers kit bag. It had two identical Pentax P3n cameras and 5 lenses, lots of extras including both ownwer's manuals. I placed the only bid and won it for $90.
A few years ago, I was looking for a good digital camera and found a K-x with a shutter count of about 200.
All lenses fit and most accessories are useful.
Takes a lifetime to get good, but only a moment to get lucky.
I do like the adjustable screen on the K-1, would make things easier when I have to go tall with a longer lens.

Chute, nice deal on the P3ns... I started with the K-10 and then went to the K-5 and now in April the K-1. I've loved this brand from the beginning. So much bang for the buck at this level.

If you'd like to learn a little bit about this camera I've created a small website. You can visit it here... http://k1.sbcoins.net/

srs77 that is quite the camera. like the link you put up. question does Pentax have its own tethering program, or do you tethering through control pro or lightroom just wondering. Sony uses control, pro. I find it very difficult to use and navigate. just wondering what you will be using if you don't mind my asking.

First thanks Rocky...

Yes, There is a tethering program, it's called PKTether. It's not supported by Pentax but written by someone else. I've used it for years and continue to do so today. . It's free, just look it up online.

I am currently shooting a Pentax K5 tethered using PKTether. All of the shots I take are used that way. I plan on shooting the K1 the same way once it arrives. I'll let you know how that goes when it gets here. Unfortunately I've got to wait until the first week of April But patience is a virtue they say...

Does PKT tether allow you to focus using magnified live view on your PC screen? If so (and if the Pentax cameras support EFSC), they would be interesting for coin imaging.

To be honest with you I'm not sure. The way I use PKTether is have it connected to the PC. The PC is run through a 42" Flat Screen TV. Live view is not possible but you can certainly take the shot and see it on a large screen. I know live view is important to most, it just isn't for me. Now with that being said I don't know if the K1 will do live view, the K5 does not but it's never been important to me.

I look forward to seeing your review of the camera ( and some coin pictures). I understand the sensor is Sony made and is likely to be the same sensor, but likely tweeked, that was produced for the Sony A7r.

I believe you are correct Austrokiwi. Unfortunately I'll have to wait until 1st week of April. That's when it'll arrive...

Sigma makes some really nice glass. I own two different sigma lenses. It'll be neat to see what they come up with.

Well, my new K1 arrived on Friday. I was away on vacation but started playing with it a little on Sunday. I have a ton to learn with this camera. It's new pixel shift resolution will be something to investigate as it's used with still photography (coins for example). It takes 4 different shots to get the best color. Don't know to much yet but pics will be forthcoming as I learn more about the camera.

Unfortunately there is no tethering software available yet for the k1. Here's hoping someone comes up with some soon.
