CCRS is the abbreviation of the Canadian Coin Reference Site. I am not sure if the site is still up and running.
Years ago, CCRS was the to-go site. Many prominent posters on this site are what initially made the CCRS site so successful.
But feeling got hurt, and the dictatorial direction of the site owner proved deteremental. Favoritism abounded and droves of great and knowledgable posters abandoned the site and many found a new home on this site.
Others may wish to elaborate further... But I believe this will suffice as a basic explanation.

CCRS is actually still operational, though I doubt that none but a few people now use it. Misbehavior (especially lack of civility) by some of the members, coupled with some unfortunate decisions by its owner doomed it to become what it is today.
Another site, CCC (Canadian copper coins), had some great posts on large cents, but it folded because its owner appeared to lose interest and wouldn't accept help from those of us who offered it. The sad thing is that the old posts from both sites are now lost to us.

Quote: Others may wish to elaborate further... But I believe this will suffice as a basic explanation. No elaboration is necessary Doug. I will say, however, that CCRS was a crucial site for getting all of us networked together in the beginning; friendships were formed and research collaborations were also spawned. I can even remember having CCRS badges that we wore at Torex and shared many beers in the pubs with newly formed friends. Much like everything else in numismatics, it is now merely a moment in history, and it is now pointless to dredge up the reasons behind its demise... Social media sites (e.g., Facebook) have a lot of numismatic groups on them - but I still prefer this site. It allows a clean separation between my work and social life, and my hobby...

I mostly agree with leaving the negative details re: the previous sites in the past. The present site is much better run than they were. But I believe that is partly because of an awareness of what happened before. Remember the old quote, "Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it".

Yes, I wish that I could have saved the CCC site despite being the moderator, but the owner/admin of the site just couldn't stop all the hacking/phishing and gave up. I haven't heard a peep from him on ANY site since its demise.

Speaking of 1859s... I have not forgotten our earlier conversations concerning an article on your website Jim... let me know when you are ready to do so...

Roger, I'll be in touch. By the way, I'm hoping to make it to Ottawa for a day or two of the RCNA show in July.

Sadly, we will not cross paths in Ottawa. When the RCNA show is here, I'll be conducting fieldwork in northern Labrador... (summers are my busiest months).

Lunch would be fine if it could be arranged. Yes, too bad Roger will be in Labrador. Gone to the dogs.

No, just dogs. Some have black faces and some have white faces, but they're all good.

If the coin that you are thinking of "restoring" is the one that started this thread, don't do anything to it. With the rims/edges the way that they are, I doubt that there would be much buyer interest in it.
