That is an altered cent...the gap between the 9 and 1 is much too wide.

Shaved "4" to make it look like a "1". There are many of these out in coinland.

I agree that this might be a altered date, 1944 D.

I have one of these somewhere.

I know not what the OP wants to hear.

Taking it to a good coin shop or coin show, where you can
get a "in hand" opinion is a good option.

It does not look like a 1914-D to me; I see a 1944-D that's altered. You have the coin in-hand and should know for sure.

That's too bad, I would have been really excited to find a gem like that for fave value!! I would have been bragging and telling every coin guy I know about it... All three of them!!

Suspicious that the one figure in the date which must be unambiguous has something wrong with it.

Absolutely altered no way is your piece a 1914 D. It isn't even a decent alteration.

Unfortunately, as has been discussed, it's a 44 D.

chipjones "Jim" - I meant real people... Not internet people... Not that you all aren't real, but I'm not going to call you up or rush over to your house or business and show you my awesome coin... I'll post it on here and some random people may or may not make a comment about something... I love this community and its combined knowledge and sense but it's the difference between having real life friends you go to the movies or bar with and having Facebook friends...

Unfortunately the acid dip did not remove all of the evidence of the alteration.
