I bought a BU Peace dollar and received it today. The seller had just tossed it loose into a padded mailer!

I just had the same thing happen, it may have been the same seller (I know he had a couple Peace dollars for sale).

I'm going to send the coin back. I hadn't looked at it too closely before I made my post, but when I took photos of it I found there are hairlines all over the reverse.

I bought it as a BU. The auction photos weren't great so I can't tell if the hairlines were there in the photo or are the result of the dollar sliding around in the mailer while on its way to me.

The coin does have a cool die crack running from the 2:00 position on the reverse through the eagle's head.

Ship it back for full refund, Not As Described. Sorry, but fuzzy photos are a sign of a lazy vendor or deliberate way to trick bidders, and poor packing practices just confirm it.

I would not leave positive feedback, either. Vendors need to learn the hard way, they can be cheap, lazy, and greedy. Not shipping a BU coin in a ten-cent flip is just greedy.

They could have wrapped it in a napkin obtained for free at the local burger joint, but couldn't even do that. Guess it might cost a little extra postage.

I just received a Morgan dollar the same way. Luckily there was no damage. I left no feedback at all.

That's a shame -- all those scratches on a beautiful coin.

Here's the auction photo. Not a great one, but I can't see any hairlines on it.

The inside of the bubble wrap mailer is fairly rough. I can see how the coin could slide around and end up with hairlines.

Not seeing the die crack in the auction photo either. Maybe not the same coin?

I could be wrong but photo looks altered with dodge and burn tool to add dark smudge over light scratched areas of coins done sloppy so it almost looks Struck Through Grease

That is interesting that the die crack is not visible on the seller's photo.

I does get me thinking that he used that photo and sent me a different coin.

I sent him the photo to show him the hairlines. He has agreed to take it back and refund my shipping costs both ways.

This is too bad. This was the first Peace dollar I have purchased in years and it was going to end up in my collection. Oh well, there are plenty more of them out there.

Paul, there are plenty of us who will sell you a righteous bu common Peace. Just make a wanted or trade thread

Unless you're trying to cherrypick from bad pics by non-knowledgable sellers that is

To Cherry Picking. Not in this case. It just looked like a nice coin with low bids. I won it for $20.

I'll be back on the search for another.

I just finished paying off our pledge to our church's building program. This is where most of my coin money has been going the last three years.

Now, with a bit of extra money in hand, I thought I'd start adding a BU silver dollar to my collection each month. This was to have been the first one.
