It's a great product and, it doesn't leave a coin 'bleached'

I agree with N9, the coin as rough as it was looked better before the Verdicare treatment. There are MUCH better restorative measures than using that product. The after looks unnatural and way too bright.

Maybe I should of waited for it to completely dry before posting pics-I don't know but this is why I'm experimenting first on cheap coins-thought a few of these large cents were perfect candidates, that said I really liked the outcome so far and it got rid of a lot of gunk but I appreciate all the comments and I'm definitely now going to post pics after fully dried. I just looked and it still does not appear dry so no rush I'll probably wait a week or so...

I agree the before pictures are far better. Now if you could do my truck and make it look like that I'm all in but for coins no thanks. Just my opinion.
Cheers, Bill

He did say that the coin needs to dry... give it some time before jumping all over it. Quote: Verdi-Care is nice to remove gunk but it also removes natural toning and coloring, leaving the coin looking bleached. If used properly, I would disagree... Maybe BadThad can chime in here...

The second is an improvement because the verdigris issue has been taken care of ... I fully expect it to look fine after drying.

Verdi care I have used like Slamnbass has and the toning of the coin gets stripped and your left with and odd colored coin. I no longer use Verdi-care as a cleaner.

Pacificoin I never keep track of all the hours I put in over the years on perfecting how I finally came up on what works for me to restore a coin it would make your head spin like so many before me have. Yes I now do restoration of a coin and not butcher them, all the products and strange things I have tried and after all that I have learned this. Restoration of a coin each collector has his/her way of doing this and as long as it done right and it works for them. Because in the end each coin saved lives on for the next collector

Agreed Strachman. Thanks for the PM by the way. I agree on what you said about the product. Experimenting with different things can conserve or destroy. Lots of copper and bronze has been graded by both NGC and PCGS that has the same "LOOK" , it is not only ICCS . There are two different versions of the product and the earlier orange coloured stuff was by far the best. It is no longer available. The current clear coloured stuff is in my opinion ,not that great and I will not use it except for semi hard green verdigris. Even then the coin is usually toast.

It's completely hit or miss with verdigris on our large cents..
Sometimes a soaking in Verdi-Care or even just soapy water and a soft brush will remove most if not all of the verdigris and grunge..
.. and then others large cents will keep the "dynamite hard green verdigris" without it budging.
Now the MS70 clear liquid is mainly a "caustic soda" (I feel)..and it can do damage if not handled properly..
Some collectors have had wonderful success with MS70 and others like myself won't touch it..
It is said that the MS70 will remove dark green verdigris on the large cents but also can then leave a pit or altered surface where the verdigris was...so you're not winning there..
I think that you can also ruin a nice variety when playing with it too much...

SIGH....
Forget Acetone, MS70, Verdi-care, dips, cleaners...
GOO-gone with Q-tip. Cleaned thousands of Vickies. No effect on toning. Passed ALL TPGs.
Hawthorn thorns under microscope for the hard crud.
1 in 50 vickies will get scratched from the debris you remove, or move around.
I've done this on about 3000 Vicky large cents.
NEVER touch AU or MS coins.

As CV said.. Quote: ..NEVER touch AU or MS coins You 'can and will' kill an MS cent if you try to remove anything.. You touch that luster and it will jump out at you..

Looking at the pictures it appears that this coin had that light hazy white corrosion over most of the surface. The Verdi-Care removed it nicely. I like the after pictures myself. I will say that I soak my cents in the Verdi-Care for 10 to 15 minutes, then use a toothpick to tap on the gunky sections. It works nicely, stops verdigris, and doesn't change the color or patina in my experience. I will say that it has drastically changed the pictures taken of the coins some times. Especially the ones with that haze. Light gets bounced of the haze, when it is removed, the coin appears darker in the pictures. In hand it just appears clearer. I hope that makes sense, and it is just my experience with the product.
