RCook - Thanks for the detailed post. I've seen how much silver you find, which makes me even more shocked to see that you order and dump at the same bank! I thought I'd certainly be getting back my own coins if I did it that way...which is why I have made a huge effort to only dump with Bank of America (since they use Loomis instead of Brinks). I also like dumping with them because it's quick and easy...I hand them the box and they credit my account...no effort at all is made to count them, because they know they will all be there. But it's time to find new options....
Bnmakr1 - I am soooooo glad you made this post. I've checked out all of the local banks for coin counters, but not the credit unions. I will be looking into Ascend today. They aren't as convenient as my other banks, but there are 4 branches within 6 miles of my house. Even if I only dump $750 at a time (so I don't run out of bag space), I should be able to get it all done in just a few trips each week. Hopefully the branches near me have counters...if they do, I'll be opening up an account tomorrow! It will certainly take longer to make each deposit at the bank, but since I won't be spending time rolling at home, I'll be saving time overall.
123Paul - Heck yes, that's too much! Wow! Every skunk box will be a net loss, unless you end up with a bunch of mint NIFC and proof coins.

Bnmakr1 - Thanks again. I just spoke to a rep and all 4 branches near me have counters. She said there is a 10% fee for vending machine owners, so I'll probably stick to $750 or $1k per dump in order to not trigger any red flags. I'll be opening an account tomorrow. I might give them a nice balance to get on their good side before I start dumping.

No problem! Glad to help a fellow CCF member. Let me know if you see any half dollar with a giant, black Sharpie star! I'd like to see where they are going.

I honestly don't recall seeing any marked with a giant star and I got through quite lot here in Murfreesboro. I looked into the Ascend requirements and they make it easy for us to be eligible...my husband can pay a $10 "50-plus Club" fee and we'll qualify lol.
Do they use Brinks? Hoping you say NO, but I'm going to do this anyway even if they do.

The one by my house uses Loomis. Dunno what they use over there but I'd assume Loomis too.

So today I brought close to $5k to a different branch of Bank of America and they took it without even giving me an odd look. Then I went to Ascend and opened an account. I love this place already...the "tellers" are video ATMs, so I won't even be handing my coin counter redemption slip to a real person!

Wow, I didn't know banks were video ATMs as tellers. Guess the future of banking will be no humans!

Five thousand in halves is a lot to bring at one time. Did you bring it to a counter?

That is a lot of coin! Is it the bank where to order from as well? I go to 2 local banks and neither would order that much at one time. $1,000 is a lot for one of them, the other just will do $500

Took a box of nickels to dump bank yesterday and exchanged it for another box. Took that box back today and the teller said I was $10 short on my last box and raised heck about me not having an account there. I told her no one has ever asked me to open an account. After her arguing w/ me about the $10 (which there was NO WAY I was short), I pulled my box from the counter and told her to forget it and said they wouldn't see me back in that branch. Drove down the road 4 miles to a different branch, same company, and dumped money there.

I just gave up and coin star now. Here in Salem I have finally got a branch to give me 2 boxes every other week and another that gives me all their hand rolled coins of any denomination. The safe manager just said please don't bring them back. Coinstar is 11.9% and instead of crying and continually being mad I finally enrolled in their card program and buy the cash gift cards for Southwest, Applebee's , ebay etc. but if I could I would dump them all at any bank I could. In Portland about 41 miles north of me is this outfit called Portland Metal, omg they sell coins by 100 lbs. and one ton lots guareenteed 100% copper cents and nickels by the ton. If I pick them up I can get a pretty good deal. Their a coin depository for copper speculators. Check out their site it will blow your mind.
