Awesome . Is it always so difficult matching them up? I am going see what I can find as far as markers go. I won't be able to pickup on the die scratches - My USB gets too pixelated zooming in that close. The important thing is that I have found a DDR

Nice find! Quote: Is it always so difficult matching them up? Yes and no. Different die states and circulation wear can hamper the process, but patients and or persistence can help overcome this obstacle. Try and focus on what is, more than what is not. Quote: I have been going back a lot on older posts trying to learn more I see great minds think alike! I think I learned from the past quicker than just following the present. I used to sort the post in ascending order to see back to 2010 and followed it forward. Learned a lot about the key players here today and watch some of them grow up (as I'm hoping to do one day) through today. Lots of useful links and info found along the way. Started a word document and saved links and info along the way. Thanks, Doug.

Thank you Doug, I know it is amazing what knowledge is wrapped up in this forum. I have been reading all along, except when I am going back a re-reading after being with the forum for a few months now - I have discovered that I am actually starting to understand what they are saying and teaching . I still have not been able to wrap my head around the Classes of DD's. Besides a couple of the Homestead doubled windows this I consider to be my first true DDR and only a couple of days ago did I get my first DDO. It feels so great, and what the members here have had to endure with all my posts turning out to be MD and worn die - they are really great for sticking with me. I know this is just the beginning for me now and I am looking forward to learning more, understanding more, and finding more. By the way congrats on getting to your 500 post Thanks Sandy

Nice find, definitely a DDR, the elongated or oval-shaped dots on the EPU and the thick lower leg of the "L" are tell-tale signs. Congratulations!

Congrats its a DDR.. Iding the die on "circulated wheat DDR" I think is very tough for a lot of us It can be difficult match a circulated DDR. For me, nowadays if I find one I just write DDR on 2x2. I have a bunch that I just labeled DDR and even revisited them time to time with marginal luck on IDing any of them. Even on ebay if you search by die numbers ddr-00 or wddr-00 etc. You will find only memorials, modern quarters or nickels rarely ever a die numbered wheat

You might check for markers like die cracks on the obverse die. http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/...ie_state=mdsThe devices on the EPU have some that are very thin. This die shows it like your coin. But more markers would nice to find as a match. 2-3 strong matches might help ID the die your coin came from. (remember die pairs may have one die replaced, so the obverse markers may not be on your coin if this happened. I would like to see some nicer images because is a very interesting coin.

Thank you all so much, these last few days have been great.
Sudz - this was actually one of the discovery pieces that you sent me. I have looked at them so many times and didn't see anything, except what I thought was smooched letters and then last night when looking again boom I see it - like a little miracle - the elongated dots the thickened wheat ear stems - I just couldn't believe it - like I had a new pair of eyes. Thank you.

I'm not seeing a match on the ones from coppercoins. I noticed the area under the jaw is strong, compared with some listed on CC, the dies were showing a lot more wear, thus the lack of die scratches and cracks. I just noticed on the last image that the olive branches are wider on the right side than the left. But nothing that is a visible marker. 001 and 004 have the thinner UNUM like your coin. You coin just keeps it's secrets, secret.

I still stand with 1939P-1DR-005 http://coppercoins.com/lincoln/dies...ie_state=mdsRight wheat thicker than left as Coop mentioned (are olives involved? I thought they were wheat cents for a reason :P). Thick doubling on EPU, extra thickness at the bottom of the 'E' in "AMERICA"

Certainly seems to be a DDR, just a question as to which one. A nice DDR find. Congratulations CC.

I guess I ruled 005 out as not being that as the bottom loops of the UNUM looked thicker than what I saw on the OP's coin.
Olive leaves. Don't know where that came from? The right wheat stem is the wider one.
(When the doubled die have mint marks, it makes it a lot easier to identify them) Find the correct mint mark location is the best clue if it is a match to that die or not. Without, leaves us in the dark.

I looked again, and there are no die scratches to be found, too worn.
From what you all pointed out with the letters/devices thicknesses I now know I need to pay attention to all of it. This being my first time around with DD's I have a whole lot more of learning to do in trying to identify them.
thanks again for all your efforts.
