Every Toonie error I find, there is a long time Toonie collector here in Ottawa who always buys them.
I have found some incredible $2 errors in the last few years, but this collector always snaps them up (much like I snap up nickel dollar errors).

Is it possible all the little abuse marks are only because it's a burnished planchet?
Cheers,Bill

Here is an example of a toonie blank planchet. As SPP stated...1996 German planchet is the only blank it could be because it is the only one that came pre-assembled. All other toonies entered the striking chamber as 2 pieces, the ring and the core.

Quote:I think the ebay twoonie is german and Robmck's isn't. Wrong. robmck1967's $2 German planchet blank came directly from me... it is most definitely legit.

SPP-Ottawa Well I'm not sure I understand why does Robmck1967's coin have an inner core rim and the ebay coin doesn't if they both in your opinion are German planchets?

I cannot speak for the ebay coin - the real test is the weight (7.3 grams) and the outer ring being pure nickel (which I check with my XRF at work). robmck1967's is legit.

All the seller had to do was compare it to a struck toonie of that era, maybe it would sell through.

So are the composition and weight of a Deutsche Nickel planchet different from an RCM one? Also, how do you tell them apart on a struck coin?

The 2 Euro coins are larger and has a larger core and weight, than the toonie.

Sorry if I was unclear- I was talking about the German planchets used for toonies in 1996.
