-- All gold and better numismatic coins are stored in safety deposit boxes. For display, I have photographs of each coin.
-- Individual numismatic coins of lesser value are stored in AirTites or flips, sorted by year in plastic bags, inside closed containers with silica gel to control humidity. For display, I have photographs of these, too.
-- Proof sets are inside their envelopes, etc., and also sorted by year in the same closed containers as the individual coins.
-- Junk silver bullion and other bulk coins are stored in coin tubes inside cardboard boxes, with no humidity control.

Jbuck - amazed you managed to locate that old thread, and glad you approve ^^
AcesKings - That looks like its had a rough old life but looks more than sufficiently engineered for the job.
Pepactonius - I find it a bit sad that you don't get to physically see the real coins but instead look at photo's but I definitely agree that throwing a few bags of silica gel in with your stuff is a good idea.

Store / display banknotes in mylar banknote album pages. The same approach is used by stamp collectors, but they use stamp sized mylar flaps for their high value stamps.

What I WANT to do, and what I'm ABLE to do, are lightyears apart. I used to have my collection spread all through the house, hidden. I used to also have several large safety deposit boxes at the bank. But I've always had my coin table in our spare room where I can actively work on my coins. Nowadays my collection is smaller....gold coins are all gone, hence, safety deposit boxes are gone, and my Dansco's are in a wood cabinet...some materials like proof and Uncirculated sets, currency holders, coin tubes, etc., are just stored in boxes...but many things are just stored right on my table, which I like and have plenty of room for. I like seeing them literally 'right there' with me while I work on stuff. I use a binder with 2x2's, albums, folders, coin tubes...everything ! I'm ALWAYS worried about security, but you can only do so much. Obsessive paranoia shouldn't overwhelm your hobby and squash your enjoyment. (Having your entire collection stolen WILL though), but there should be appropriate and common sense measures put in place and just be content and happy with that.

This is how I display my coins. When strangers are at my house, or friends of my kids, I cover them up. This is stored in the basement, so I have a dehumidifier on at all times from May to October.

@ teslacoil: Just make sure you don't mistake a 1916D dime for a tablet! It may acquire an unwanted patination on the way through.

Like a lot of others-- I don't display them at all and they are in a locked safe type storage cabinet and very few people know I even collect them.
But they are in caps or dansco albums, or in some cases PCGS boxes.
It is something that is a bit of a struggle for me-- why do I feel so compelled to collect something that I can't share or show off (at least not without some risk)?
Beats me but I do it.

My coin storage, WildflowerAB posted usage of a Lighthouse Presido Quadrum 100 case previously in another forum. I have one also. I also use 2x2 black cardboard Mylar coin boxes. Uni-safe folders that hold 60 2x2s, I purchased over a year ago. Yes I heard of PVC issues with older Uni-safe albums on the Canadian Coin forum. I purchased a lot 8 Uni-safe albums of 2 red colour, 2 black, 2 brown, and 2 blue. I also make use of 2 front loading shadow boxes. Quote: I used to have my collection spread all through the house, hidden. Yes, mine is currently hidden, spread all through my residence.
