Alex, That is great to hear. Do you have any family or friends that collect? I am curious, can you describe the modes/venues to which you are exposed to the hobby most? i.e.internet, club, shows, magazines, etc.. I am interested in what draws Young Numismatists, especially 1st gen.

I'm 15 now, and I started collecting when I was 13. I may not have been collecting long, but I sure as heck know a lot about numismatics.

I hope I never take this hobby too seriously.

I started collecting after my first year of college. My father gave me a bucket of coins to help pay for my books... ended up seeing some SBA and Ike's in there and caught the bug. I think I was around 19

I started collecting as a kid, probably around 10 or so. My grandfather on my mothers side was a collector and also a rural delivery driver for Canada Post, so he always had an inside track on new coins, uncirculated sets, etc. I started collecting after admiring his collection, of which I ended up with a portion of a few years later.

I Collected off and on until I was about 16, at which point it fell by the wayside. I'm 28 now, and after purchasing a new home fell out of my other hobbies, at which point something clicked and I dove right back into coins, getting my old collection out and starting to add to it, learning about pieces I had but didn't know anything about, and going full out documenting everything and finding what I'd like to focus my efforts on.

I can relate to the statement above. My father was a world coin and stamp guy. I collected world coins donated from friends and family who travel all over the world, and what I can find from my parents during my early teens. Then the period of university studies and starting into my career; coin collecting was not in my mind. Then a trigger point at the local flea market in my mid 30s, I saw a coin seller. I dove right back in. Coin shows, LCS, antique shows, flea markets, then that discovery of ebay.

Taking a break from coin collecting before diving back in.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who followed that path. Thanks The Sifu!

27 years old, started when I was 11. Had to take a bit of a break between the ages of 16 and 22 due to lack of ability to fund the hobby, but I continued to admire the collection during that time.

I started collecting around age 7 for a few years and am currently 29. I haven't seriously collected since then, but I might be getting interested again.

I started collecting around 4 or 5 years old, and I'll be 17 in oct. My best friend thinks it's stupid, but I've been obsessed with them ever since my mom gave me a 1976 Mardis Gras dabloon her dad gave to her.
