In 1957 one of my brothers passed away. My parents boxed up his stuff that was worth saving. One of the things was his piggy bank. It has a bunch of coins in it and some paper money. Nothing has been added or taken out since then. I will never break it open to see, but it makes me wonder.

I say keep it in the family and continue to add to the variety. Imagine the same excitement when your grandchildren find those hidden treasures!

When my mom passed away in 1984 ,I got this tin box almost full of silver dollars, half dollars ,V nickels and Indian pennies, etc.Plus my dads Remington pump shotgun.Well I still have most of the coins but my work got slow and I sold my dads shotgun to a guy with the understanding that I would get it back when I got the money, guess what, he moved away.To this day I've regreted selling it..

"while visions of sugar-plums dance in our heads" I have always found the best part of these is the anticipation, still I hope you find some gems. Every once in a while........

Morgan and Mark,
It must be great to have coin collectors in your families! Keep us posted on your discoveries!

I agree with that. One more thing, would you consider adopting me in case you discover a exceptional coin collection?

Well, I have returned. No, there were no CC Morgans, BU Trade dollars, actually nothing worth grading. But, I forgot just how many coins I had! I couldn't find my grandfather's small bag, but my mom thinks it is in storage and she is going to make a point to look for it soon.

I did find some cool stuff though, and I will post some pics tonight, so stay tuned... I have gone from a collector with a handful of coins that I recently aquired, to a collector needing good albums to start filling holes in.

My Dad's collection of cents. (I am holding on to it (with my mom's blessing) until he learns to appreciate things like this.
Forgotten-Treasures??-*now-With-Pics!*

Some Ikes, and 5 common Morgans that my dad had in a can
Forgotten-Treasures??-*now-With-Pics!*

A $1 Silver Certificate and a Red Seal $5 bill that my mom gave to me.
Forgotten-Treasures??-*now-With-Pics!*

Some silver that was in another can of my dad's (Merc's on the left, 1 Standing Lib Quarter, and 1 Walker. and a '21 Morgan, a '23 Peace, a Franklin half (bot. left) that I found while helping my Grandma clean out a room in her basement, that she was happy to let me have.
Forgotten-Treasures??-*now-With-Pics!*

And some Silver Certifs that my Dad told me to put back in the tin with all of his silver. I told him that if he wants them he can have them, but that I am going to put them in holders so that they could be properly stored. He said that they were worthless, and to just put them back, so I told him that I did. I will give them to him when I go home for Easter, in proper mylar holders, and in an archivial quality box.

I know that there is nothing her that I really have to worry about, but I now have to think about spending my hard earned coin $$$$ on supplies! Albums, tubes, 2x2's, GLOVES, etc... Coins are much more fun to buy then supplies! I never did find my grandfather's coins, and I was mistaken about my great grandmothers, those were actually my dad's, oh well, still fun, and it leaves something to look forward to finding on a future trip home!

P.S. What is a good website to buy supplies from, or if anyone is around the KC area, (Eagle), what is a good local shop to go to? I like to help out the little guy if I can.

Edit: To address everyone with worries about selling stuff... No, I am not going to sell any of this stuff. Now, if there were a couple 1893-S Morgans in AU/MS, yea, I would probably sell one to furnish the rest of my collection with stuff. And I actually think that is what the people that handed it down to me would want... A problem I really wish I had.

Excellent photos and thanks for sharing!

Are you planing to move those cents out of the folders and into albums? I ask since "albums" was on your list of supplies.

Noob - that quarter with red fingernail polish (4th picture) sure looks familiar, and brings back a lot of memories. My mom owned a restaurant from the early 1960s until the late 80s, and of course it had a jukebox. The waitresses would mark quarters with fingernail polish, and those were considered freebies, or "house quarters". When the guy came around to empty the coin box, he gave those back to us. It was a just a marketing ploy, I guess... we'd play songs on the jukebox to spur customers to do the same.

As a kid I remember using "house quarters" all the time, playing Elvis and Beatles songs on the jukebox. Good memories. And I've found a few of those red quarters while going through Mom's stuff.

All I know is that I want to come over and collect with you. Do you always break out the vodka and Crown Royal when working on the collection. I bet I can get some of the cycle riders to come along. We could have a club jacket and a motto like " Wild Coin Collectors, Lets ride".

LOL, yea, and the best part is that you can fill the empty bottles up with coins! I didn't bring my bottles of cents home - a fifth of Jack, a 1.75 of Captain Morgan, and a 1.75 of Jack all chock full of cents. (most consumed during college) And we wonder why the mint has a problem making enough sense cents!

Oh, and we could put a picture of a Morgan on the back of our jackets! Would actually be pretty sweet... Then, we could go crazy and give all coin collectors a 'tough guy' image, kinda like the Hell's Angles did for bikers. And soon moms won't let their kids go to the local coin shop, and you will hear people whispering things like, "Don't mess with them, they collect COINS!"
