I am pretty sure that it is geunine. It has been cleaned at some point, and that probably explains the spots on the obverse. The obverse also has that rim nick and scratch at 12k. The reverse has VF sharpness, but the obverse does not. I'd say Choice Fine sharpness, but net graded to VG because of the cleaning and the scratch.
Even though it won't grade, certification is mandatory for a 1909-S-VDB cent. There are probably more of them now then there were in 1909 if you following my drift, and that is not good.

Thank you both for taking a look! I was hoping it could sneak in as a VF, but I agree with the concerns mentioned. I am relieved to check back on the thread and not see a bunch of COUNTERFEIT replies. I have no reason to believe it is anything but genuine, but as billjones said, it's a raw 1909-s VDB so you never really know.
I'll probably send it off at some point, but I think I would like to finish the Dansco album to see it completely filled first.

I would say F12 or higher and it may go through without a details grade. I would consider sending it for grading prior to selling it for an upgrade or change in collecting interest.

Based on the second reverse picture, I think you're getting too much light on the coin. The first 2 images make it look cleaned but the last one looks natural. Unfortunately, there's some damage on the obverse by WE, so it would likely be in a details holder if you got it slabbed.
Look for the die chip in the upper loop of the S, all of the SVDB's have it. Based on the pictures, it looks to be genuine but there a more fakes on there than real coins. The die chip is one of the easiest diagnostics.

If your collection is in an Album, I'd just leave it as is. What purpose would it be to send it out for grading? then an empty spot in your Album.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts and opinions. Here is my second attempt at photographing the coin (this time with a USB microscope):    This is as close as I can get. I'm guessing we need much closer to see a die chip? I guess my only reason for wanting it graded is to 100% ensure authenticity. |

I'm with Carl: I'd leave it in the album and look to purchase a slabbed specimen if that suits you.
As with the others, an old cleaning that probably wore away the obverse details creating the disparity between the obverse and reverse grades. If only you got to it sooner!

I'm not sure about the microscope, it gets strange images. Anyway, at best this would be F15, I think. As it's a probably a key Lincoln Cent, you might want to get it graded. |

Agree F-15 (details), cleaned and nicked but genuine (Die Pair #3).

Definitely cleaned at some point. Reverse looks VF-20, Obverse looks F-12, so I'll give it a F-15.

Why worry about the grade. It is in your Album so leave it there and be proud.
