BC Greek coin from Smyrna Ionia (Turkey), 15mm, Apollo obverse, reverse boxing glove called a caestus or cestus and palm branch. Not in great condition but fun to have anyway. Of course the Greeks and Romans loved their amphitheaters for performances, sports, gladiators. Though there's no sports reference on the below coin it is from Elis, Olympia the region where the Olympics were born, 18mm, 2nd cent. BC. The city of Elis was about 30 miles from the Olympia Zeus sanctuary. Athletes would travel in procession on the road from Elis to Olympia to compete.
