They are charging double face value on ebay so its worth a shot. Never thought I would be searching 50 cent rolls to be honest but so much talk about it got me doing it and I have found a little over 5 dollars in each 25 dollar box. Doubling your money is doubling your money and its cheap compared to everything else. When I saw people were looking through rolls of cents I laughed but not laughing no more b/c I am hooked now! What sparked my interest too was the money people were getting for new boxes of 2008's. Just last night I saw on ebay someone getting over a 120 for 25 dollar box and the auction hadn't ended! But I have not run across that yet.

Brinks is pulling copper pennys after searching one box from bank and serval guys At realcent forum are geting boxs from bank thats all zinc 83 thru 2008 pennys in box these days.

Finding 1959 thru 1982 copper could be history soon in bank boxs. The us goverment may be trying pull them like in 1968 with silver coins with machices. I read press release in 1968 us mint website, They pulled over 2 billion silver quarters and dimes gave to gsa to sell them bullion.

I think Brinks is already doing it since overnight the boxs went from like 3 to 5 bucks on copper down to nothing. Its looks they doing large scale pulling copper pennys with machices. Its unkown if us mint is telling them to do it or not.

I also did a search and could not find anything on this, I do save all copper cents. Maybe someday they will be worth something only time will tell.

Surprised to hear a dealer will pay that for coins he can get at face value (granted it would take some work to get $50 worth). I have started a small collection of copper pennies too, with roughly 5800 so far. There are guys out there that have accumulated a ton or more of these though. Some people seem to think that it could be a huge windfall down the road with cents going for 4-5 times face or more.

I looked at 20 rolls of pennies today ,found these copper 98-80's,195-70's,96-60's and 23 wheaties.I had been running about 25% but 412 coppers out of 1000 is high percentage anyday.

Yeah, about 20-25% is normal. I've saved from pocket change and the occasional roll for the past 3 years. I now have about $40 - I think I'll stop at $50. What is cool about it is that if it ever gets to x5 face value, I'd have $250 for really nothing - since I don't miss those pennies.

I just went through a quart ziplock bag chock full of cents. I had them when I was a kid, and just recently picked them up. (if you read my "Forgotten Treasures?" post you know what I am talking about) Well, the newest penny in there was '92 and only a few of them. I was mostly just sorting the copper from the Zincolns, and pulled aside all the nice shiny AU coins. I had two 20oz plastic solo cups. When I was done I had about 40-50 (guess) '82's and a bunch of shiny '70's and the copper cup was almost full, and there was about an inch of Zincolns in their cup.

BTW, I love the '82's! Sorting the copper from the zinc is kinda fun!

The dealer that purchased those for about 2cents each may have other plans for those. Remember he didn't have to go to a bank, spend time on ebay or other web sites, he didn't have to drive anywhere, no money for gas, oil, wear and tear on his car, no time looking through piles of coins for a Copper one. Just pay someone for all their troubles.
Then another thing is if he knows or suspects those are all commons, and he knows electricians that sort of find places to recycle wires and cables, they throw those in for weight of Copper. Happens around here all the time.
