It looks like it may have been in a bezel or encased in a holder at some time, then removed. With the Copper plated gone and the Zinc exposed, it will quickly corrode. Better spend it while it's still recognizable.

Spend it now. Zinc rot has started and that will end with a few copper flakes and a pile of zinc dust. Think of it like musical chairs...

It's PMD and rot.....but, it is a neat looking example of a survivor.

If you're asking if it's worth a lot of money, then no, it's not worth keeping. It's worth a cent.

But I'm the others who said it's worth keeping just because it looks so _________ (insert your own adjective).

If it got this way during some terrible accident and if not for the penny that saved your life you would have gone the way of Lincoln... then yes keep it. Otherwise, I would trade it in for a shiny new one.

Welcome to the forum. The only way to learn is to ask. Hope you keep looking. If you do, a lot of great and interesting coins will find you. I am certain of it.
