Quote: Well, I admit I only have the bare 29 coins, no varieties. I guess that should be next. I frequently avoid varieties because most of the time, I can't tell the difference. Perhaps my growing collection of magnifying glasses will help. I am assuming the three coins you lack (in the 32 coin set) are the 1976P, 1976D, and 1976S Clad Proof Variety I vs. Variety II. I think they are probably the easiest varieties to differentiate! Also, the 1976 Variety I coins are technically 1975 coins, while the Variety II are 1976. You should get them!

You know, Prethen, I like 3-cent nickels. I like 3-cent silvers better, but there is a budget problem there. But that certainly is a possibility. I only have a couple of each, I think. What are the key dates for the 3CN? And will it be completely out of my price range? I'll take any hints you've got. Jan

Could any of you post a pic of 1976 type 1 and 1976 type 2? Maybe a link?

Janknez......... Congrats on the completion ! .....I say just revel in that for awhile and smile at the accomplishment!.......Of course then the logical next step would be to "upgrade" wherever you can, but you can take your time with that !....much kudo's to ya ! AtiGati......... There are some here who have just "asked" for them at the teller.......but that's not too prevalent I wouldn't think. You cannot "order" Ike's.....Some are even scoring $2.00 bills just by asking......which I guess is the best deal......just ask !....It never hurts to ask, all they can do is say "NO" or "do you have an account with us?".....ha ha..

Are there any good sites for telling the difference between all the different varieties? Also, I assume PCGS dosen't lable all of the varieties correct?

Awesome job! My bias (like Prethen's for 3 centers) is for 5 centers or 50 centers. However, to keep you from feeling stuck in a rut I suggest 'mini' type sets. Since you are on dollars, you may want to stay with dollars. But if you are only looking for one of each type (you don't have to include 1794-5 Half Dimes obviously), you can get a nice representative of denominations in a presentable format quite economically. Breaking down by denomination is a good way to do a type set without 'doing' a type set. I think I actually had the most fun with cents. Large cents are a blast of a coin and a copper type set looks verrry nice. Modestly priced well worn 200 year old coppers have a gravitas inversely proportional to their deflated purchasing power.

Thanks, Eaglefoot. I AM revelling. But upgrades for a few are probably in the offing. Halfabust -- I don't know why, but cents don't move me. But I do love nickels. I hoard 2004, 2005 and pre-1960 Jefferson for no reason except I want to. I'm thinking about Liberty/V nickels -- I'm missing all the expensive ones. I have my "denomination" set of US coins. I'm only missing the $3 gold and double eagle. Those will have to wait until gold comes down, I guess. Oh, and, of course, Stella. I'll only see her in pictures. Jan

Way to go, I have 7 more coins to get to finish off my 7070 album and I will be happy to put a bow on that thing when its done, this is the hardest thing I have ever tried to complete so I have personal respect for all of you people that can stay focused and actually finish up all these sets
