Is This 1942(I) Penny Scrap?

Sorry, but Trout is right. It doesn't matter if it was in a protective case for decades, since when it went in it was harshly polished. Calling it 'scrap' may be a bit harsh, but the coin is quite damaged.

I have no expertise on Aussie coins ... but concur that if you are seeking a second opinion ... I'll offer mine as a knowledgeable numismatist.

Based on the photos provided ... this coin has been harshly cleaned ... and likely polished.

It's collector value is zero IMHO ... best of wishes if you feel otherwise.

Well Luckily its not a good date and I have like 5 others in XF+ cond.

Hey trout, on the off chance you come back to this post what condition is this one (my best 1942):

I know that this is your collection and it is important to you as is everyone's collection important to them.
Many of the members here have a wealth of knowledge about numismatics and they quite freely share that knowledge with others here.
If they have given you their opinion on a coin that you present here then that opinion is "Unbiased" and to the best of their knowledge an accurate assessment of that coin.
Nobody here is trying to belittle you OR your coins They are just giving you their honest opinion that is all.
Instead of becoming upset that a coin that you think is "Amazing" is regarded by members here as not so amazing use their opinions to learn about your coins so that you can grow your own knowledge so that at the end of the day you yourself will be in a position to be able to grade your own coins with a high degree of accuracy and in turn be able to help other collectors learn.

Education and information sharing is the "cornerstone" of this forum and many members here spend a lot of their time and effort selflessly helping other collectors by sharing their wealth of expertise and knowledge freely and without malice.

Its just I cant see any wear on the coin, you can see my confusion right

Though Ive learned my photography means a 30 difference in number grade, when I posted my 1943 S Jefferson nickel everyone replied 'vf details: cleaned + polished is a possibility' later I took more photos in much better lighting showing the coins features much more precisely and the same people all agreed it was an AU-53

But you can see my confusion with this coin being graded F

also the picture of the obverse wouldn't capture properly, the dude has noticeable lines in his hair irl but not in the picture, also he, just like on most australian coins, seems to be weakly struck

Luckily idrc about value and grade as I dont plan on selling any of these ' inherited' coins
