I'd say that the mintage figure of 59k being thrown around is based on an assumption that this coin was only going to be available in the Uncirculated set. With nearly 100 rolls being available at one point on a certain Canadian dealer's website (yes, now sold out), this rumour is now confirmed to be untrue. There are still three full months left in 2016 where there will likely be demand for more dollar coins to be struck for circulation. According to the RCM website, the "Women's Right to Vote" and the "Lucky Loonie" issues had mintages of 5 million each. Since the Mint is now striking the regular loon dollar for circulation, this could indicate that they have reached the production limits of the other issues but still have demand for more dollar coins. Unless they have another commemorative type dollar coin release in 2016, I wouldn't be surprised to see more of the 2016 regular loon dollar coins before the year's out.

I agree with Quatchi. The 59K is probably arrived at as that is the published circulation amount for the uncirculated sets. No one really knows what the mint is doing or how many will be issued in rolls for circulation. All a big secret.

It could be like the $5 Macklem Carney note, rare at first, rumors of not being circulated, then bam!
I remember being at the casino in Vancouver, cashing out a chit and I received a bunch of them, thought I hit the jackpot. Sadly, I got home and realized that the cat was out of the bag and they were being found everywhere.

I had contacted the dealer directly about the 59k number and his response was Quote: RCM, only issued in Unc set. I contacted Colonial Acres directly and the response on Sept 12 was Quote: Are you looking for the 2016 Regular Loon. Unfortunately they have not produced Regular Loon rolls this year, only Olympic, and Woman's Vote. It is possible (my speculation) that the 2016 Regular Loon that you've seen on the CA site http://www.colonialacres.com/produc...l-of-25-pcs) may have been a placeholder that someone setup early in the year and that they didn't have stock. I've sent an email to ask for clarification. Another speculation is that when they finished their run of PL sets the rest were dumped into circulation rolls and that's what we've seen.

Just got off the phone speaking with a rep from the Winnipeg mint and they have confirmed that there will be a release of the 2016 loonies for circulation. Apparently they were in production about a month ago. No indication on mint quantities but likely low mintage for this year.

Looking at the Loonie mintage figures for the last 10 years I think the regular Loonie will have a mintage of 5.000.000 to 10.000.000. Low but definitely not that low.

Just received my 2016 loon rolls from the dealer in question. They are indeed 2016 Loon Loonies. All is well. Now to wait on final mintage quantities for the year.

Quote: Just received my 2016 loon rolls from the dealer in question. Yeah, mine arrived yesterday, didn't get a roll though, only a single for just in case. I was ordering supplies anyway and picked up the 2015 Poppy quarters too, got tired of waiting to find them in my change (of course now I'll probably get them in my change tomorrow lol)

Went to the mint and just picked up two rolls.... the mint employees were selling rolls of the lucky loonie for $49 and the regular loonies for face plus their 5%
The mint employees were touting the 2016 as a "very very low mintage" year....

My friend goy me some 2012 plastic Penny rolls when he was on a trip to Winnipeg around the time they ended them, and they said the same
If I recall correctly, I could find the email, but they were telling people low mintage and rare
