BU means Brilliant Uncirculated and nothing more....it is NOT a grading system. The only thing it implies is that a coin is mint state.

In ebay land - BU may mean nothing. It could be brilliant uncirculated or recently dipped or just another acronym to add to the item description.

Brilliant is just a word and how it applies to a coin; well let's just say opinions vary.

i think its just lazy of someone not wanting to take the time to place an accurate grade on a coin by using an old outdated systems that really has no bearing on todays collector looking to purchase a coin.

Well then, that's the point, isn't it? Not lazy, just deceptive.

Thanks all. I have 60 rolls of 1963 D and 5 rolls of 1964 D Dimes to go though. and 53 rolls of 1970 S cents. I just got the job of going though a collection 30 years worth. most are marked BU and are in tubes. this is just the start there is 90000 face value. and I did see two CC Morgans. and I get first pick and 10% and sell the rest. Thanks
