so the rolls and bag go together perfectly and both have the actual bank's location on them..this to me is priceless and historic..
i think you answered your own question here.

Hate to say it, but your were intending to hold these rolls for another 40 years to double your money, crck them open, hopefully you find something unique as a nice error or similar.

If it was a roll of 1985 pennies, I'd crack looking for pointed five's but with 77's not much happening so I'd leave intact. Liquidating at a later date could work out better in rolls I think.

I've kept 20 rolls of 69' cents and I've got 20 rolls of 1953s. It was a hard decision but being a younger collector like yourself I thought I couldn't lose if I kept them intact.

I said yes I would. But to be clear, I'd keep a few intact and the rest open.
Edit: The matching bag with the rolls is definitely a cool piece of history, but I wouldn't think you'd need 48 of them. As for value, I don't see them appreciate it much, so you'd be keeping them as a historic piece more than anything. So maybe I'd keep something like 5-10 rolls and the bag and open the rest

I voted leave them be. If down the road you want to sell them - the more rolls with the bag the better I would think. You have a pretty cool pairing and history right now. In my opinion.

I think I would break some of them, just to see what quality they are.

Break them all. Why let someone else enjoy the experience?

I have 8 rolls of new 77's that I got, I broke open 4 and what I found was great, die clashes, MD in date, doubling in legend and a lot of other minor differences. In the end it is your call but you will never know if you don't. Also you said that some of the rolls broke open so you don't have a full bag, so brake open a few more.

I, personally, would crack open about a quarter of them, and keep the rest rolled.

I've got a few rolls of silver that I've never opened (yet)..so I guess there is no rush to. Now to be very bad ..maybe you could undo a few stitches on a side or bottom seam on that bag...just for the fun..(my very bad)....I could sew it back together ..if necessary..

There is nothing really special about a 1977 penny unless there is a huge clip or some kind of cool error, as proven 40 years latter you could purchase this bag for a bargain over face, there is a good reason for this, just my 2 cents worth.
