You can just get the 2012 No-security ones in gift sets.

Or if you have a metal detector, go search the field where the truck crashed.

That one is a real thoughy, I still haven't found one!

John100: (the old comp-2102 toonie was) Only distributed for a couple months, mostly out west, the Ontario delivery was in the famous Trans-Canada highway accident ...

My understanding is that the lions share of them actually went out east - and were involved in that crash;
I believe a good number (but I'd guess less than 1/1 of the loonies went out west;
I have found two of the loonies.

John100: (the old comp-2102 toonie was) ...and most of production was never released due to new smaller designs as of todays toonie

My understanding is that the production of 2012 loonies and toonies started out with the remainder of the old planchettes (I think that's the correct word!?) being used up, then when the supply was exhausted the mint switched over to the new "security featured" (aka: steel garbage) planchettes...

@ MIke999:
Another one to keep an eye out for is 2006 varieties;
I have not heard or read anything conclusive, but I have understood that there are no less than four version of the 2006 toonie, both the regular and 10th ann version were released with the date at the top or the bottom;
The anniversary toonies have a double date, and a different polar bear image;
If my memory serves me, the ones with the date at the bottom all have a maple leaf at the top, where as the ones with the date at the top have an RCM logo on the bottom...

I have not yet found a 2006 double date/maple leaf variety in circulation.

Also keep an eye out for "set only" coins - I found one so far that I pulled from circulation!

I see on google images the different varieties of '06.

Anyone have an idea on how many RCM logos were minted?

Mike;
The RCM never broke down variations of any of these (or many other similar running changes) over the year(s).

The sole exception seems to be when composition is concerned...

I still believe that the 2012 old composition loonie is by far the hardest one to find;
Originally I believe the mintage was pegged at 1.5mil - but I believe a great percentage of them were involved in the brinks accident - to be reclaimed, and de-minted.

The pre security 2012 loonies and toonies were manufactured in vast quanitys held in storage, but when the RCM decided to redesign the loonie and toonie due to it's new size and weight, the old designs were not distributed except for a few weeks thus the low mintage. Eventually all old loonies and toonies will be ARP.

@ Canadianpennyman - DBM is poking fun at 829729742, not you.

ARP = Alloy Recovery Program.

Good one DBM

Maybe some people figure if they are going to add useless comments, it is better to do it on an old post where it won't get as much attention and it still adds to the post count.
