Date position matches die #1, see if you can get a close up picture of the gap between the eagle's left leg and tail feathers -- there should be a very visible die gouge. Also see if you can get a good close-up picture of the inside of the wreath ribbon bow.
The toning where the MM would be does not match the other surfaces, which concerns me, as this is common on defaced 1894-O's where the mintmark has been removed, and there are a whole lot more of those out there than genuine 1894's.

Looks like a removed "S" mint mark to me. I do not see the heavy polishing lines in the ribbon bow or left leg-tail feather gap, but if you have a 10x or so magnifier or loupe, see if you can see the heavy polishing lines there. If so, you may have the real deal & need to get it out for authentication ASAP!

The polishing lines are there on the bow when I use my 8x loupe, but I'm not positive about the left leg/tail area. It's probably worth sending out just to get confirmation.

I think you may have a winner there based on the LIBERTY motto details. Definitely send it to ANACS for confirmation.

My word, what dealer would let that slip into a junk bin?

OH boy this would be an awesome pick if it turns out genuine. Great story. Update when you get confirmation.

I'm thinking I'll ship it off to PCGS sometime this week. Hopefully luck is on my side. I'll keep this thread updated when I learn anything new.

Very nice and you have a good shot at getting into a straight VF slab. Things like this can and do happen now and then. The trick is being in the right place at the right time

If the Morgan guys are saying this is probably legit, then I would trust their judgement.

Send her since 1894 is second lowest mintage Morgan only 10,000 more than 93-S. Unless the S has been removed somebody at that coin shop stepped on their organ.
