One would think that the police, who are supposed to enforce the laws concerning counterfeit currency, would actually know what real currency is.
Evidently this was too much to expect.

Probably good thing I wasn't the Principal as the whole school would have heard me chewing some adults out for this blunder... I would have told them all if they wanted their jobs tomorrow that they had better show and get EDUCATED!!

I've created many mini-tempests over the years trying to spend cull Indian cents at local supermarkets and drug stores - kind of fun for an old codger. But never had the cops called!

Those who should know the Law don't understand it.
THAT is very sad.

Unfortunately, I could not see the article, my advertisement blocking software prevented it. I hate advertising pushed in my face.

I see an article like this once a year or so, and it never ceases to amaze me.
And yes, it's sad.
The girl has a good story now though.

I had no trouble spending one at Subway in Miami Beach in 2013. I was actually a little disappointed that the cashier took the bill and didn't even comment on it!

I spent two $2 notes at a Tim Hortons awhile back and the guy at the drive through window,in his 20's said cool and that he was going to keep them. I guess I dodged the coppers that day John1

Nice little factoid and error on the bottom of the first page of the article:
"Today, $2 bills are still being printed: there are about 1.2 billion $2 bills currently being circulated. That seems like a lot but consider this: out of the $1.2 trillion worth of coins and bills in circulation, less than 0.1% of them are $2 bills (with respect to actual bills, not including coins, the statistic is closer to 3%)."
You'd think Forbes would be better at writing about money.

I know I will probably catch some flak for this ("That's the parents' job!" and all) but I really do think that high schoolers need to take a "life skills" class. You can cover a lot in a semester; thinks like:
How to identify what is and isn't legal tender in the US.
How to change a blown out tire.
How to identify signs of social engineering, and if you are in an abusive relationship.
How to file taxes, and how to calculate what the monthly withholding *should* be.

No argument here.
Wasn't that "Shop", "Home Ec", and "Sex Ed" back in the day?

Once again proof that when it comes to money and finances, the average citizen is dumber than a bag of claw hammers. Went to my US Bank in NW Washington last week and actually got 50 nice UNC 2 dollars. We sell them at our Canadian Flea Market stall with a holder for 5 Bucks Canadian. They sell quickly!

I spend a hundred or more of them every Christmas season and during our July 4th celebration.
