Ugliest banknote I have ever seen. Not with the subject matter but with the size of the head on the bill. It should not take up 1/2 of the bill.

I'm with MoneyPenny .....what a joke of an artistic effort. Looks like a third world Banknote.
Also is that museum on the back of the note that ugly in person?
I have been watching the History Channels rather excellent series called "NAZI Megastructures " shown out here on Wednesday Nights.
The museum portrait reminds one of the West Wall structures built to repel the Allies during World War II before the Normandy invasion June 1944.

Saw this on the news, Neat that it's up and down, but looks like a government brochure.

As a banknote the imagery looks like it's from an Eastern European former communist dictatorship.

Museum looks like WWI German helmet.

What country is this for again?

Easter Egg on the BoC info page for this note. CLick on Spin 20 times and you get to play a game.

There are definitely better angles of the CMHR. But then again I expect some of the detractors, based on the comments, would be grumpy regardless.

It would be a shame to be unable to appreciate this note. Comparing one of the motifs to Nazi superstructures is nonsense. Good on the BoC for honouring this important figure in Canadian history, and for putting out a note that will remind Canadians of how far we've come and how far we have to go in terms of granting equal rights to all citizens.

It is the first banknote of the new vertical design. We know Borden and King will be gone from the news series.

http://www.macleans.ca/news/viola-d...-historians/

The Queen will be on the $20 and Laurier and McDonald will be moved to the $50 and $100.
The question remains who will be on the $5 bill. Any guesses or suggestions for the new $5?

My suggestion is Terry Fox for the new $5.

Terry Fox - would be the most apolitical move seen by the Trudeau govt...not likely IMO.

Terry Fox . What a great choice that would be . A true Canadian hero and Icon. Courage , Tenacity , Selflessness. Traits that certainly were part of the formation of our Country.
Something tells me there will be a 5 Dollar Coin rather than a Banknote . Five Canuck bucks is virtually valueless these days.

Considering that the $50 and $100 note will feature men and that her Majesty is really old and her replacement will most likely be a man there is absolutely no way that the Trudeau gov will put a man on the $5 note. Of course, there will surely be complains why men are on the hig denoms and women on the low...

I think the design of new $10 note is okay.

Actually, her replacement WILL be a man because it will be either Prince Charles or Prince William.

My bet is on Prince Charles as the next monarch on banknotes and coins as he has patiently waited his turn.
And Prince Charles would want his son to raise his small children as normally as possible without the pressure of being King.

FYI, if the kid in you wants to come out for a few minutes.

If you want to play the game, use right and left arrow keys to move and spacebar to shoot.

I have a suggestion for the $5 bill, Frederick Banting.

And another Lester B. Pearson. The above are both Canadian Nobel prize winners.

I really don't like the vertical orientation.

I think it looks neat especially given it's on front and back and front not just the front.

Once the other denominations start being released it won't be such a big deal, besides there's likely a method to the B.O.C.'s 'madness'.

Perhaps the reason for the need to have a larger landscape?

Anything can happen between now and 4 years when the design of the new $20 is due to be unveiled.

Would've been nice to see an updated portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth on coins by this year.

Proof Nut, I do think there is a reason for the vertical design, but it might take a while to get used to.
