Which country are these from because they are not Australian holey dollars ?

PEI is short for Prince Edward Island, a province in Canada.

Those coins are pre-confederation and at that time PEI was a British colony.

FIVE pei holey's and FOUR plugs? in one sitting ?!?!

it's days like these that I look at my (modest) collection and wonder why I even bother

only thing that beats good coins is good company. congrats on both!

This is interesting, I never knew that there were other Holey Dollars and Dumps besides the Australian Proclamation coins.
That is the beauty of numismatics, there is Always something new to discover
Are there any other countries other than Canada and Australia that did this before they had their own official coinage?

The last time I had a Beer and Coins evening we were playing Poker

Which is why we do this about once every two months... there are six of us who gather together, all numismatists and collectors alike, and sometimes it is a game of oneupmanship... we either BBQ or cook up a big meal, start sipping wine or beer at about 3 pm and after we eat, the coins come out. Bob Forbes used to do this with Warren Waxman and Sid Belzberg in the Toronto area... now imagine THAT table of coins being passed around!! For us, finding good friends in the hobby makes the hobby that much richer and enjoyable...

Those PEI coins belong to the person who wrote the book on holey dollars.

Also, the Twoonieman comes to the coins and beer, he is also quite the chef... this past Saturday evening, he not only cooked the meal in my kitchen, but he then put this set down in front of us!! Beautiful coins!

Thanks for posting the pic. It's something I never would have seen anywhere ever.

Totally agree with you on the meeting part! I meet only with one other right now and we have a pretty informal "show and tell" session.... which has been fantastic and fun and a great friendship has developed over the years....

Thank you for sharing SPP those are some really nice pieces

{Trout1105 - This is interesting, I never knew that there were other Holey Dollars and Dumps besides the Australian Proclamation coins.}

These coins used for the holey dollars were not made in Canada but were Spanish pieces of 8 (8 reals)that were holed and countered-punched with PEI and other identifiers.

Looks much more detailed than the one I showed. The one I have is more of an intro to the coin type.
