I'm guessing pyrbob is busy, but in case he does drift by this thread again, here are the photos:

I haven't been able to find images of a 1939 Henning with this reverse die, but I was able to find images of the dot marker above the left gate. The weight is normal. Hopefully Bob can weigh in on this find.

I've never heard of the Henning nickel before.

Are they worth anything as a collectible?

I don't know about the other dates, but I have seen the 1944 trade in the $70 range on ebay.
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

When looking around for a reference for mine, I saw one person offering $40 for the 1944 and $200 for the other years. I suspect that the 1944s are less costly for the fact that they are more readily identifiable; wrong material, missing the P, and the hole in the R. Even with one of the other reverse dies, the material difference and the lack of the P make it more identifiable than the rest. I also read that folks suggest that the 6th obverse die was possibly a second 1944 obverse making it more likely that the number produced by two dies of the same year significantly exceed those by a different year.

No problem coinfrog - happy to share what I've uncovered with my fellow enthusiasts. I'm hoping that Bob will be by to give some added clarity. With his expanding collection of Hennings, he would certainly have some input on value and rarity by date/die-pairing based on his many acquisitions.

I have to say that it is a rare event to find them in the wild. I was lucky to go through my 'extras' hoard to find mine. I had a number of odd 1939, 1946, 1947 and 1953 nickels but I was using the scale and hole in R to locate suspect items. As a result, I will need to review them again to make sure I didn't overlook anything when I finally learned about the dot diagnostic (located that one when I got to the 1939's; too late for the other hoards).

Rackster your images of the 1939 are spot on for an identification of a Henning nickel.. unfortunately you've talked about bob several times and if it's the Henning expert your looking for he past away there's a thread that his wife posted letting people know about it.. I too have a 39 Henning and it's very similar to yours

I found one from 1947 and had it checked out but I don't know where to sell it or anything. Does anyone have any idea's? I could use a little help here as this is the best thing that's ever happened to this old lady.

Gma-01 pictures would be great obverse and reverse so we'll be able to diagnose which Henning you as far as the looped R or Non-loop types.
