On a side note, your signature seems to validate another I've seen (sorry I can't remember who) that basically says those who say "There's no such thing as a stupid question" are invariably the ones who keep asking them.

It's funny but not wholly true here

Glad you got a kick out of it. I was actually laughing out loud when I typed it in. Brutal honesty always makes for a good laugh!

This last week was stellar for ebay auctions. I always devote my October, November, and December purchasing for the 10 days before Christmas, and I never sell during that two weeks before Christmas.

Purchased some beautiful items for 10-25% less than the normal selling prices, which is pretty huge for the coins on my want list.

The next three days are also typically great for buying too.

IMO and experience, summertime. too many people away on holiday and you're highly likely to snipe an auction last second online.

Probably the best time would be January . A good month after the Christmas madness of everyone buying coins for presents ,sales die down for the dealers . So this IMHO is the best time of year to find good deals .

When I see an offering for "Or Best Offer" I start with a rock bottom offer and go from there. Just this last week the sellers seem more reasonable and willing to bargain. On the really scarce Morgans they are just as stingy as ever.

The Best deals can be had from noodling around the festive season as the many jars and piggybanks of coins are cashed in at this time of year.
Many Non collectors that find an interesting coin toss it into their change jars etc. instead of spending them But when funds run short as they always do at this time of year off to the Bank they go.

Summertime, and around November/December.

I think summertime. Coins are mostly an indoor activity and when the weather is nice, most want to be outside.

The owner of my LCS always says "buy in the summer, sell in the winter".
For me personally, I buy whenever I see a good deal.

After over 60 years of coin collecting I've found that the best time to buy coins is on February 30th and 31st. Also, April 31, June 31, November 31.
I really don't think there is a better or worse time to buy anything.

Sorry Carl , but I have to disagree . From what I understand, the best time to buy coins is on a full moon . New moons are ok too but they say dealers are quite cranky and will often kick you out the door without making a sale .

Good deals can be found all year long, you just have to educate yourself in your area of interest and know when to jump on extremely under priced items that are not correctly described..

In the last month I was able to purchase two inverted overprint errors printed on Web-Press-Notes..

The 1st was for $225 and the second was listed under "Buy it Now" from a dealer for $349.00 (postage included)..

Most of my CCF post's are in the U.S. Currency Forum, and I've been tracking Overprint Errors printed on Natick Test Paper and Web-Press-Notes and posting in-depth Census results of confirmed errors along with the exact serial numbers awaiting confirmation..

The top note does have a tear on the lower right, and if you notice the definition of "Premium" in the Web Handbook, the quoted value is regardless of the notes condition (they are that rare)..

Any time the seller needs quick capital or is getting ready to send items off to the wholesaler.

I was offered common date half eagles yesterday for $285, the lowest price I've seen in 3 years. I don't foresee PM's going up for a while. However, by waiting the supply and quality of what's available will get worse.
