I am unsure if I have a consistent dump method yet for me because it is too early in the game. Right now I'm using a coin counter at a credit union to dump some and then rolling up the rest and taking them to other banks I have account at. There is 3 different branches of the same 2 banks in using now. So I'm taking turns going to each one. But I will probably end up opening two more accounts at different banks so maybe I will only have to use each branch only once a month.
Question: Do banks send their half dollars out when they get them rolled or do they just keep them in the vault?

For spruett001 or anyone else, I like the imported candy from Germany, France, Belgium and Switzerland. They use real sugar, not high fructose corn syrup and chocolate from Africa not South America. I need to visit my bank this week, I'll pick up $25 in pennies. I'm feeling lucky.

Both. If the bank has any number of roll hunting customers, they don't need to send them out, the halves get recirculated via customers. They can also sit in the vault. If the bank finds out they have a surplus of coin, they may send out to an armored service.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72

Big7,
I have several different banks and bank branches with limited coin vault space in my CRHing areas. As a result, if I desire to deposit several boxes of bulk coin at a branch I know has limited coin vault space, then I call-ahead and check on the availability of space in their coin vault to save myself a trip. This is only a small inconvenience for me. If the coin vault at one branch is "full", then the head teller will simply tell me. If this is the case, then I call another branch.
Bottom line: Our relationships with our banks are very important. The less we inconvenience the banks we use for ordering and depositing, the more likely we'll maintain good relationships and be able to continue to CRH.

What happens when all of the branches are full of vault space?

They ship coins back to their parent bank or their Federal Reserve bank. Shipping costs money, which is why banks will charge fees for ordering or depositing boxes or other large amounts of coin.

Like many others I use CoinStar and get Apple iTunes gift cards. If you use iTunes it is a way to buy apps and media without using a credit card. This helps prevent splurging.
When our iTunes balance gets low the wife lets me buy coins and we dump the chum to refill the account. Since she uses iTunes much more than I do it is a win-win for the both of us!

Some coins are re-rolled and taken back to banks while others get spent. Half dollars are almost never taken back to the bank as that I like spending these. I sometimes dump these in the self-checkout at a Walmart Neighborhood Market that takes them, for purchases of $10 or so.

My Bank allows me to dump as many coins as I please for free... Maybe you could find a bank that will let you do that too?

The candy thing just caught me off guard, but now that you mention it, that's sounds pretty delicious! Sorry, again. I just received my Jefferson album and am scouting out the best place to get my first box considering I don't have a bank account at all. I think it must be some sort of a trust thing, but if I present a $100 bill and ask for nickels, why would I be denied? There are approximately 10 banks in the towns I frequent and the only repeat is the bank at Wal-mart, which I decided is not the most appropriate place to get boxes. How important is it to CRH to have an account? Just curious...

Use banks or credit unions where you have accounts. Find one that treats you as a business taking a lot of bulk coin per visit. I kept breaking the free do-it-yourselfs at my banks w/$25 plus of pennies until they told me they'd start charging, or go somewhere else. My bank is one that doesn't accept customer rolled. Take a canvas sack in, couple days later get a deposit slip in mail. Now to get that service had to sweet-talk a few tellers...bring in a few neat coins to show on next visit.

I bought an old bank coin sorter counter at an auction that I run my cents through put them into coffee cans with handles, take them to my bank and they dump them into a brinks bag write $50 on it and give me 2 boxes.

Quote: What happens when all of the branches are full of vault space? You find another bank. Chase (at least on the West coast) has VERY little vault space, and to make matters worse, they don't empty their vaults very often. Out here, Wells Fargo and US Bank seem to be the best banks to deal with when it comes to turning in your coins.

I'm making more and more use of my phone as I get more and more into CRH. Today I called ahead to make sure my box of Halves came in before I drove the three miles or so to get them. I like to keep as good a relationship with my banks as possible.

I've got a couple of banks which allow me to do this, but I try to rotate them so that they're not overburdened at any one time. If you have enough banks in your local area, eventually you should be able to find one that will let you dump as much as you want.
