Not to be a master of the obvious but if it gold beans then yes, by all means give it shot for upgrade at PCGS or NGC. If it gets a green bean then further thought would be required but it would likely be worth a trip back to a TPG. And if it doesn't bean then leave it alone.

If you regrade after CAC, don't you lose the sticker? Thats an expensive route to seeing if you want to regrade. A regrade is $30. I think its worth doing, but FH is a design that wears very well. Its hard to grade and its possible they got it right.

Leave it in the PCGS holder and send it to CAC. Don't send it to NGC.

Just wondering, what ever happened with this? I'm in the market for one of these and can't find a clean graded one for any decent price

Nothing happened with it. I never sent it into CAC and didn't crack it out. I don't think it's a CAC candidate. If your looking for one start trolling Great Collections and Heritage every week. Forget about buying one on ebay. What grade are you looking for? I can do a quick search for ya.

There's 2 coming up at the ANA show in august graded f-12. These will probably sell for $2,900 or more.

Oooh! Here's one from Great Collections in good 6 being auctioned off this Sunday. Your more likely to get good deals from GC than heritage due to there eBay-like auction style.

I agree Mike not CAC worthy and don't crack it out. With hundreds of collectors, coin scouts and dealers at the FUN show
looking at lots this coin would have sold for a lot more if it was CAC worthy or had upgrade potential. Also be aware that a
coin in a new holder does not mean that it has been graded recently. It could be a coin graded in the past and reholdered.
Thank you for sharing your coins on the forum.

It's a good looking coin and the price was VERY good for what it is.
I do not own a lot of US coins, but among all US coins the flowing hair dollar connects me most for the 240+ years of the history of the United States.

@joltean1698:

I received your offer via private message. Did you even look at the price I paid for this dollar on Heritage?

If you're honestly trying to make a deal the best approach probably isn't to start the negotiation with an insulting offer.

I'm sure by now you see how hard it is to find a flowing hair dollar at a decent price that meets ones quality standards. It takes time, patience and discipline.

It's even more insulting because of the time I spent trying to help you out. And yet you make me an offer for less than what I paid for the thing? What the heck is the matter with you? C'mon man. Get real! You deserve to be called out on this.

When I go to heritage it doesn't show me the price as I don't have an account. I had assumed in that you paid in the $1800-2000 range as that is what you had said a fair value for the coins based on grey sheet and such was. That's why I added on a few hundred to the top end of that range to that offer. I wasn't trying to be insulting, I was assuming that's what you paid.

Ok I understand. I was referring to the other example that you posted in your other post that I graded as vg-8. Grey sheets for vg-8 is $2000 according to Heritage. Again, like I said in the other post, that assumes Heritage has updated their price guides recently. vg-10 will be much higher but Heritage hasn't updated the CDN yet for VG-10. I think you misread my post.

Before you do anything, I would suggest you sign up at Heritage and do some homework. It cost's you NOTHING to sign up. All you need is a paypal account which also costs you nothing. For the record I paid $2,350 for this coin and that does not include the shipping which I also had to pay for.

There's a lesson here for us all .... Better to ask questions and clarify matters before making assumptions. It sure doesn't sound insulting, given the explanation of the circumstances.

I'd not be surprised if NGC slabbed this 1795 as F-12.

Thanks for stating the obvious Exoguy. I was furious when I got that offer. I assumed he would of signed up at Heritage to do more homework. Maybe it's just me but when someone coaches me on how to gain more knowledge, I don't just follow the advice, I pounce on the opportunity.

Yeah, Mike, it's obvious, but more so after the fact, methinks.

A few years ago, I offered to sell an early coppers dealer what I considered a bargain. He'd always been good to me, so I wanted to reciprocate. I offered him six early coppers for $900, figuring he could make some money on the lot. We were then at a big show. He didn't even bother to counter ...no communication. Long story short, I sold them to a few other dealers within the span of two hours, realizing $1,100 total. Obviously, it was a deal for him, but despite his superior knowledge, he didn't go for it. There was no meeting of minds. Ever the best of us fail to see the obvious at times.
